Neuroshima Hex gets universal update, price increase
Neuroshima Hex is a great strategy board game, and it’s one that made a particularly successful transition to the iPhone last year. Like many iPhone board game adaptations, however, this one was just yearning to make it onto the iPad’s bigger screen. Now it’s done that, and it has a bigger price to match.
Version 1.2 of Neuroshima Hex is now available on the App Store, and it’s brought with it universal support for the iPad, Retina Display-enhanced visuals for the iPhone 4, and Game Center support that includes leaderboards and 54 achievements – all for the slightly higher price of $4.99.
Hiking up the price by $2 might seem a little outrageous for a $2.99 board game app that’s been around since September, but this isn’t the first time we’ve seen such an increase happen. The popular board game Carcassonne underwent a similar price increase, going from $4.99 to $9.99 last month when it added universal support. It may seem like a strange business model, but in the world of digital board games, it seems to be one that works.
One thing’s for certain – board game aficionados are getting a good deal no matter how you slice it. With high end board games like Neuroshima Hex setting real world players back $50, a little $2 increase for the digital version is a small price to pay to put the same experience in your pocket.
