Game Information

Welcome to the My City Life walkthrough on Gamezebo! My City Life is a real time Simulation game created by City Life and played on Facebook. This walkthrough includes tips and tricks, helpful hints, and a strategy guide to complete My City Life. This guide will be updated as the game changes so check back frequently.

  • My City Life is a simulation game developed by City Life Games and added to Facebook in January of 2010. My City Life allows you to design your own virtual City. With the help of your Facebook Friends you can build a bustling, productive City that will thrive under your supervision.
  • Players will place businesses, houses, and other support structures in their City to collect coins which will be reinvested into the City’s development.
  • You will be given statistics of such things as crime and pollution which you will be responsible to monitor and repair.
  • You can counteract pollution by placing nature items such as green houses, parks and ponds.
  • You can counteract crime by placing police stations and fire stations in your City.
  • You will begin with a small piece of land, a power company and 3 small houses. Arrange the items on the land in any way you wish and wait until enough time has passed to collect money on each item in your city. As you collect taxes on these items you will purchase more items that will earn money for you. Over time your income will grow exponentially as the more items you place, the more money you can earn.
  • Your Facebook friends are your Neighbors and an important part of the game as you can visit their Cities each day to earn coins and to work in one of their buildings to help them out.
  • Gifting is critical in the beginning of the game. Have your friends send you gifts each day and be sure to send to them. Items will unlock in the gifting area as you progress in the game. You may not be able to use all the gifts given to you right away and can hold them in storage until you have enough resources to support them. You can also sell them for money instead of waiting to place them.
  • You can hire your Neighbors to work in the businesses and homes of your city or they can volunteer to work in one of your homes or businesses while they visit you. If you have a house with a late Tax collection it will be outlined in red. If you Neighbor chooses to work in a house outlined in red it will turn back to green and you will collect the full amount of money and XP as this structure will start to sparkle after it turns green and will stay this way until the taxes are collected on the structure.
  • Each house, building, transportation mode and community park have a different amount of time you must wait before you can collect from them. If you collect the money when the building is outlined in green you will receive the full amount. If you are late they will be outlined in red. You will still get some money but it will be greatly reduced.
  • You can train students in the University and when they graduate they enter the workforce. These workers will earn you an additional 25 coins when taxes are collected from a structure.
  • You can train workers to become Fire Fighters and Policemen in your Police Stations and Fire Stations. After they are trained they can be put to work earning you 50 coins each for one time only.
  • Keep an eye on the games statistics so you can purchase the correct items to keep your city balanced and productive for you.
  • Additional games developed by City Life Games and played on Facebook include, Hospital City, Vampires, Beach City, Farm Country and Skycity.

Game Strategies, Tips, and Considerations

  • TIP – A small house can be purchase for 30 coins. After 3 hours you will earn 40 coins so the houses pay for themselves after 3 hours. You could essentially buy small houses and double your money several times over if you are willing to put in the time. After you have around 25 houses sell the small houses off and replace them with larger houses, apartments or condos. This will save a lot of space and you will make more money overall.
  • If you are visiting a Neighbor and you see they have a house in late collection (Red outline) you can click on the house and work in it which will take it back to on time status and turn it green. You can only do this for 1 house per visit per day but hopefully your Neighbor will do this for you when they visit your City. Once your neighbor or you save a structure it will turn green and begin to sparkle. It will stay this way until the taxes are collected by the City owner. Working in your Neighbor’s structure earns you 15 coins and can be done once per 24 hours per Neighbor.
  • Purchase a University as soon as possible as this will allow you to train people to enter the workforce which means more money for you. A University trains a worker for you every 8 hours so if you want to build these up quickly be sure to check in every 8 hours to release the student so another can start training. Having more than 1 University is a great idea if you can afford it.
  • If you can afford 60 Credits for an Ivy League University you can train workers to become doctors which earn you a large amount of money when you place them in the workforce.
  • When you have Police and Fire Stations in your City take the time to save up several workers from the University and then train them all to become Fire Fighter and Policemen. After they are trained which takes only about a minute to do. (See Training Policemen and Firemen Below) you can redeem them for 30 coins each all at once. This is a great way to earn extra money.
  • Visiting neighbors will earn you 15 coins and 1 XP. Try to visit your neighbors each day to earn this free income. You can also work in their houses which will inspire them to do the same for you.
  • Do not purchase decor items until you are well established in the game save the money to reinvest in structures.
  • Try to set an alarm clock and check back on your City to collect the taxes on time. Doing this for just one day can increase your income significantly.
  • An item is late when twice it’s time has gone by. For example if a small house takes 3 hours before you can collect you will be given 3 hours from the point it becomes green to collect. Once 6 hours hits it will turn red and you will lose a lot of money.

Getting Started

My City Life
  • To play the game you must have a Facebook account. If you do click here to reach the Application -http://apps.facebook.com/citylifegame/play.php
  • You start the game with a small piece of land, 3 small houses and 1 power plant. You are given 200 Coins and 5 Credits. You will immediately win the daily Lottery which is about 72 more coins and you will be prompted to share the news that you have started the game over the live feeds which will offer your Neighbors a cash bonus for clicking on a link. These are optional (See Live Feed Items) and there is no penalty if you wish to ignore but your Neighbors may appreciate the extra money and may reciprocate in the future.
  • You are taken through a brief tutorial where you are shown how to collect cash in your structures and how to maneuver around the game screen.
  • You will be asked to make a Profile in which you choose gender and name your Character.
  • At this point it is a good idea to go into the My Neighbors tab at the very top and send out 20 invitations to friends and neighbors. Unlike some Facebook applications your friends must accept by invitation to play My City Life.
  • You can also send 20 gifts at this time and request that friends start sending them to you. The more advanced your friends the more advanced structures they have unlocked and can gift to you. This is a great way to earn extra income when you start out.
  • TIP – Do not spend your coins on decor at this point. Save it and invest in houses only. Come back in 3 hours to collect and you will have a return on your investment with a profit.
  • Each small house has 2 citizens so remember adding houses adds citizens and you must have enough power to keep the houses working. Be sure to check the statistics area frequently to see what you need to purchase to keep the city in balance.
  • You will have to start out slow and build up your coins before you can afford any major structures but if you are persistent in coming to check in every 3 to 6 hours you will be able to grow your City in no time at all.

My City Life
  • Experience points are what you earn as you do various tasks in the game. For example you earn 1 experience point or (XP) each time you collect money from a building.
  • Experience points are what you level up with in the game.
  • There is a bar at the top center of the game screen that shows you how far you are to reaching the next level.
  • You can also place your mouse over this bar and it will tell you how many XPs you need to reach the next level.
  • Various structures will award you different amounts of experience points.

Levels

My City Life
My City Life

  • There are currently 50 levels in the game but it is expected this will change since the game has just been released a few weeks ago. If any additional levels are added this guide will be updated.
  • Each time you level up you will earn 1 Credit to spend in the Shop.
  • Levels are determined by the number of experience points you have earned.
  • Each time you level up your City increases in size by a small amount.

City Statistics

My City Life
  • You can toggle the statistics bar at the top of the screen.
  • Citizens – Here you will see how many Citizens you have and how many are available to hire.
  • Crime – Here you will see what percentage of crime you have in your City. (See Reducing Crime Rate Below)

Training Students at the University

My City Life
  • Once you have a University in your City a student is automatically being trained and after 8 hours he will graduate earning you 30 coins and 1 XP.
  • As soon as you collect University taxes the student will be entered into the workforce at the bottom right near the gift and camera area.
  • Click on the workforce Icon and a menu will open showing you a worker. You will be asked if you want to put this person to work. If you say yes they will be randomly assigned somewhere in your City and will earn you 30 coins. You also have the option of putting all of your workers out to work all at once which saves you a lot of time.
  • NOTE – There is also an Ivy League University in the game which can only be purchased with Credits. If you want Doctors for your hospitals you can only train them in Ivy League schools.
  • All people must be trained at the University before they enter the workforce with the exception of your neighbors that decide to work for you.
  • TIP – Placing several Universities is a great way to increase your workforce quickly. Keep in mind that the more people the more pollution and crime you will have to deal with.

Adding Workers

My City Life
My City Life
My City Life

  • Workers can be added a few different ways. First Neighbors can visit you and agree to work at one of your structures. They will work at the structure for 24 hours so it may be beneficial to have them work somewhere with a high turnover rate but you must collect the taxes on time to make this effective.
  • Any structure with a worker assigned will sparkle and earn you an additional 25 coins if you collect the taxes on time.
  • You can assign workers to your structures but you must train them in the University first and then move them straight to house, businesses, or service industries such as Policeman or Fire Fighter.
  • When you can afford it place a University in your city right away and then an Ivy League University if you have the Credits to purchase one. You will need these to train Policemen, Firemen and Doctors later in the game.
  • Once you place the University a student will graduate in 8 hours. When you collect from your University your worker will enter the workforce at the bottom right menu of the screen. You will see a number in the red circle to indicate how many workers you have.
  • If you click on a worker in the workforce menu he will be randomly assigned somewhere in your city.
  • If you wish to train a worker for a specific job you can do so by clicking on the structure and hiring someone from the menu there. For example if you wish to train a policeman click on the police station and click on “Hire” to start training him which just takes a few moments and he will enter back into the workforce as a Policeman or Firefighter and you can then put him to work which is essentially redeeming him for 50 coins as he only works once and disappears.

Training Workers to Become Firefighters and Police Officers

My City Life
My City Life
My City Life

  • Once you have a worker trained in the University (See Training Students at the University) you have the option of making the him a worker in a home or business, Police Station, Fire Station or Hospital.
  • When the 8 hours needed to train a student is over you click on the University to collect the taxes and the student will automatically move into the workforce area at the bottom right menu. (You will see a man with a construction hat and a number indicating how many workers you have)
  • After you have a Police station or Fire Station in your City you can click on it and hire one of your workforce to train there which takes about 1 minute or less and then they will enter the workforce menu area again but this time trained as a Firefighter or Police Officer.
  • When you are ready click on Firefighters and Policemen while in the Work Force menu and send them out to work. You will collect 50 coins for each one immediately and once you redeem them they are gone and you can train more policemen and Firefighters.

Training Students to become Doctors or Lawyers

My City Life
  • In order to have a Doctor or Lawyer you must purchase an Ivy League University for 60 Credits from the shop.
  • Once you train a student at an Ivy League University then you will Train them in the Hospital to become a Doctor and at the Law School to become an attorney.
  • Doctors and Lawyers can be put to work for 100 Coins each and once they are put to work and redeemed for coins they are gone from the game and you will need to train more.

Ways to Decrease Crime

My City Life
  • To decrease crime you will need to have Police Stations and Fire Stations in your City as well as Town Hall buildings and Churches. These building will decrease crime by at least 25 points for each one you place on land.
  • NOTE – Putting Policemen and Firefighters out in the workforce does not decrease your crime rate.
  • Businesses are the largest cause of increased crime so keep an eye on the statistics and check to see how much crime a structure will add to you City. You may have to counteract this with more police or fire stations.

Ways to Decrease Pollution

My City Life
  • The best way to decrease pollution is to place as many nature items as possible on your land. Ask your Neighbors to gift green houses to you in the beginning and when you have several sell them and purchase farms, parks and lakes which will wipe our a large amount of pollution at once.
  • Transportation is the largest cause of pollution in the game. You may want to go easy on transportation until you can afford nature items to balance it out.
  • Keep an eye on your statistics. The game also does a good job of notifying you when something is out of balance and telling you what you need to purchase or sell to fix it.
  • When you have enough money start to purchase trees and shrubs as they remove 1 pollution point each.

Power Plants and Generators

My City Life
  • You will need generators and Power plants to keep your Cities working. If you try to place a structure and you don’t have enough power you will be prompted to add another power plant. If you don’t have enough money to purchase one you have the choice of removing some houses or buying a less expensive generator to keep things going until you can afford the power plant.
  • Placing the generator or power plant on the land is all you have to do to put it into effect.
  • Be sure to keep an eye out on the statistics bar at the top of the screen.

Transportation – Placing Roads in your City

My City Life
My City Life

  • You can purchase a small portion of road for 5 coins. There are parts to make turns in the road and straight pieces. Choose the shape you want to place and the road will stick to the cursor. If the area is green you are clear to click the mouse and the road will place. Be careful as it is easy to make the road crooked and you will have to click on each piece and choose the “move” option to adjust it.
  • Each time you place one piece of road by clicking you can place another one immediately by clicking again. After you are finished click on the multi-use tool to clear out your cursor or click on something else.
  • In the near future people and cars will be moving on your roads so make sure they are well connected and placed in front of businesses and transportation items such as bus stops.

Mystery Boxes

My City Life
  • Mystery Boxes were introduced into the game in March of 2010.
  • Mystery Boxes can be purchased using Credits at a rate of 1 for 18 Credits or 3 for 45 Credits.
  • You will receive a mystery item with a 10% Chance of being a “Rare” item, a 30% Chance of being an “Uncommon” Item, and a 60% chance of being a “Common” item.
  • To purchase a Mystery Box click on the “Purchase additional currency button at the top right of the screen and the offer will be at the top of the page.

Collectibles

My City Life
  • There are special attractions in my City that you can only earn if you collect a specific number of items. These items are gifted to you buy your neighbors.
  • You can access these items by clicking on the Shop and then on “Collectibles”
  • There are currently 3 attractions you can trade for Collectibles.

When you are ready click on the items in the shop and the trade will happen putting the building into your gift area so you can place it when the circumstances are favorable.

Coming Soon

My City Life
  • In March tiny people that walked along the roads of the City were added to the game for a few days but were pulled by the developers to fix some technical issues.
  • This guide will be updated when the people are brought back with an explanation of how they effect scoring.
  • People in your city can only walk on the roads so be sure to place roads in your city in clear paths they can walk around.
  • The game hints that cars will be on the roads soon as well as several new exciting buildings to place in your City such as Nightclubs, Ski Resorts, Train Stations and Spas.
  • Also expected soon -Trophies for you to earn for various milestones in the game.

Collecting Taxes

My City Life
My City Life

  • Each item (excluding decor) that you place in your City has a certain number of hours you must wait before you can collect taxes from it. If you are on time the structure will be outlined in green and if you are late the structure will be outlined in red.
  • There is an amount for green and a reduced amount for red outlined structures since they are late.
  • You also earn XP (Experience points) each time you collect.
  • To collect taxes simply place your mouse on the structure and click. You will see the amount collected flash by briefly.
  • As soon as you collect taxes the countdown until the next time you can collect begins.
  • TIP – Find the structure with the least amount of hours and try to check back at that time. If you only have once a day to visit sell all the 4 and 8 hours structures and only keep those with 12 hours in your city.
  • Sparkling Buildings have been visited by your Neighbors and they have agreed to work there which saved you from losing your full tax amount.
  • There are also apartment buildings, condos, mansions and other structures available for purchase once you unlock them.
  • NOTE – Only the houses are listed in the table below. To find out this information about other structures go into the shop and place your mouse over the item and a summary of this information excluding the late tax collection amount is seen there.

  • The tax collectors are found in the shop in the same menu as the buildings they collect from.

  • If you have a huge City this will save you a lot of time as you will not have to click on each structure to collect taxes.

Grace period for collecting taxes

My City Life
  • When a structure is ready for you to collect taxes it outlines in a bright green. At any time you can mouse over a structure to see how much time is left before you can collect.
  • Once a structure does turn green you have double the time it took for the taxes to become collectible. For example, in the small house it takes 3 hours before you can collect taxes. The house will stay green for 3 hours giving you a chance to collect. At the end of that grace period the house will turn red and you will lost a large portion of your income.
  • You do not lose experience points with late collections.

Expansions

My City Life
  • If you want more land to build your City and don’t want to wait to level up you can purchase expansions in the shop.
  • A +1 Expansion buys you one section of land and can be purchased for $7,593 Coins.
  • You can purchase a +1 or +2 expansion (2 sections of land) with 24 to 48 Credits.

  • Along the bottom of the game screen you will see your Neighbors listed in order of score from highest to lowest.
  • Click on the image of the person you wish to visit and you will be taken to their City.
  • Look for structures outlined in red as you can save this building for your neighbor.
  • You can also work for your Neighbor.
  • Click on a building and a menu will pop up. Click on Work Here and you will be finished in about 3 seconds.
  • You will collect 15 coins each time you help out a Neighbor by working in one of their overdue structures.
  • You have the choice of working in a red outlined structure and if there are none available you should try and work at the most expensive building you can find such as an apartment complex, or University.

Recruiting New Neighbors

My City Life
  • My City Life has a couple of easy ways to invite new Neighbors to your game.
  • If you click on “My Neighbors” at the top of the page you will be taken to a page that lists any of your friends that have played the game as well as their level and points. The Neighbors with the highest scores will be listed at the top.
  • Each person has a link next to their name so you can send them a personal invitation to be your Neighbor in the game.
  • You are allowed to invite no more than 20 people per day at this time but this could change.
  • Another way is to look for a link for the “Invite Friends” link also at the top of the page and this will take you to a screen with all of your Facebook friends that do not play the game that you can send an invite to.
  • If you still want more Neighbors you can visit the My City Life fan page and forums where there are many people posting messages looking for new friends to play the game with.
  • Here is a site at Facebook where you can add new City Life friends: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=226424314329#!/apps/application.php?v=app_2373072738&id=226424314329

Sending Free Gifts

My City Life
  • You are allowed to send up to 20 free gifts to your Neighbors every 24 hours.
  • As you level up in the game more items unlock that you can gift.
  • You can gift either collectibles or buildings to your Neighbors.
  • TIP – Most people will gift you the item that they want you to send to them so be sure to reciprocate that item if gifted to you.
  • To send gifts click on “Send Gifts” at the top left of the page or look at the bottom right of your screen where you will see a gift icon moving back and forth with the number of gifts you can send for the day. Click on it to go to the gift sending screen and the icon will disappear if you have sent your full limit of gifts for the day.
  • Once at the gift screen click on the item you wish to send and you can send it to all friends at once by clicking on their name in the pull down list.
  • NOTE – If you wish to send a gift to one particular friend click on the “Neighbors” link at the top of the screen and scroll down until you find the person you wish to send to. If you haven’t already sent them something that day you can choose an item and send just to that friend.
  • Once you send the gift your friend will have to accept it. When they visit Facebook there will be a page of requests and they will accept the gift there.
  • It is a good idea to send gifts as much as possible as many people will immediately reciprocate and anything they send to you is free income for your City.

Click on the link to go to this page. You may see some City Life links listed there in the corner. If you do click on them.
  • Once in the requests page you will accept each gift one at a time.
  • Click on the “Accept” button and you will be taken to a screen which will show you the item that was gifted to you and you also have the option of gifting that person the same item they sent to you right there. If you click on “Send Jane Doe a gift” it will automatically send them whatever they sent to you. Many people like this feature as you know you are sending what people want and when you send gifts people know what to send to you as well.
  • After you accept all of the gifts they will move into the gift area of the game at the lower right corner menu.
  • Click on the gift icon and you will see all the items you accepted at the request page.
  • You can either store the items here until you can use them or you can sell them from this page.
  • If you are ready to use them click on “Use” and the item will stick to your mouse cursor until you click on the land to place it.
  • NOTE – If you do not have enough citizens or resources to support the item you are trying to place the game will stop you and tell you what you need in order to place that item.
