Ms. Splosion Man Preview

KABOOM! What’s that sound? It’s the glorious rumble and roar of Twisted Pixel’s Ms. Splosion Man making its way to the PC, iPhone, and iPad. Ms. Splosion Man is on her way to blow up your iPhone, iPad, and PC

KABOOM! What’s that sound? It’s the glorious rumble and roar of Twisted Pixel’s Ms. Splosion Man making its way to the PC, iPhone, and iPad. Ms. Splosion Man is a platforming game that was previously an Xbox Live Arcade exclusive—but Mizz Splosion is a woman who is made entirely out of combustible materials, so how long were you expecting her to remain walled in at one spot?

Ms. Splosion Man plays much like its predecessor, 2009’s ‘Splosion Man. The action is primarily of the side-scrolling action variety, but getting through levels, avoiding traps, and outsmarting your captors is only possible by exploding over and over. The concept proved so compelling that Capcom allegedly, er, “borrowed” it for a 2011 game called MaXplosion.

But whereas MaXplosion received an immediate iOS release, Ms. Splosion Man‘s iOS appearance will be Twisted Pixel’s first release on the iPhone and iPad. In a press release distributed earlier today, Twisted Pixel confirmed that the iOS versions of the game will have unique features, and that both the new releases are being “painstakingly crafted to be as awesome as possible.” Look for new objectives, new gameplay modes, and, for the PC version, the intriguingly-named “2 Girls 1 Controller” mode.

Now here’s what’s super-interesting: Microsoft acquired Twisted Pixel last fall, and now their XBLA “exclusive” is coming to iOS. Should we take this as more evidence that Microsoft is slowly embracing iOS as a viable game platform? It seems so. Late last year, the company put its wild animal simulator, Kinectimals, on iPhone and iPad. While Microsoft probably won’t go mad with iOS releases in the near future (it has the health of the Windows Phone 7 and Xbox to think about, after all), the company is doubtlessly picking and choosing over games that have a potentially bright career across multi-platform releases.

We’ll still see exclusives, of course, and games that will hit Microsoft’s platforms ages before being ported to iOS, but it looks like the studio realizes one of the quickest ways to meaty game profits is to get said game into as many hands as possible, period.

There’s no word yet on release dates or prices for Ms. Splosion Man, but stay tuned to Gamezebo for more inf—(sound of explosion, wail of television test pattern)
