Junk Jack 2.0 Preview

With an improved inventory screen and support for multiplayer action, Junk Jack is coming back in Junk Jack 2.0!

Originally released in late 2011, Junk Jack is a 2D sandbox game of exploration, building and survival for iOS devices that bears more than a passing resemblance to the indie mega-hit Minecraft. In fact, the developers actually thank Minecraft in the App Store description, acknowledging that without it, “This game would not exist.”

But as good and as popular as it is, the developers at Pixbits aren’t content to simply rest on their laurels. Thus they are hard at work on Junk Jack 2.0, which will take advantage of the power of new Apple hardware to do things that couldn’t be done with the original. Among the changes are an improved inventory interface and, even more significantly, support for multiplayer, although how that will work hasn’t yet been revealed.

Junk Jack 2.0

Junk Jack 2.0 will include all of the features of the original game, but because Apple has dropped support for the Arm v6 processor that powers older iOS devices like the iPod Touch 2G and iPhone 3G, the new game won’t work on those units. Further details about Junk Jack 2.0, including a possible launch window, have not yet been announced, but the studio promised in the most recent update that more news will be coming soon.
