Iron Man 2 Preview

Contrary to the low expectations that are normally applied to movie video games, iPhone games based on summer blockbusters often meet with great success. iPhone games based on everything from Terminator Salvation to Star Trek met with rave reviews last summer. Even the game based on the first Iron Man movie, Iron Man: Aerial Assault, was incredibly well received. Gameloft is looking to continue this trend of great movie tie-ins on the iPhone with the upcoming release of Iron Man 2.

Even the game based on the first Iron Man movie, Iron Man: Aerial Assault, was incredibly well received. Gameloft is looking to continue this trend of great movie tie-ins on the iPhone with the upcoming release of Iron Man 2.

Iron Man 2

Unlike the previous Iron Man game, Aerial Assault, which offered up an air combat experience, Iron Man 2 appears to be a more traditional superhero action game. Players will be able to run, hover and soar with their armor as they unleash a variety of weaponry (and their ironclad fists) against an army of mechanical foes. Powers can be upgraded between stages, letting players grow their character’s abilities as they progress.

The game will also offer up a variety of alternate Iron Man costumes, with the Mark IV, Mark VI, Stealth and Underwater suits all confirmed to make an appearance. Other inclusions should also appease long-time comics fans, with enemies like Ultimo, Firepower, and the film’s main antagonist Whiplash all squaring off against Tony Stark’s shellhead alter ego. You’ll even have the choice of playing through the game as both Iron Man and War Machine.

Iron Man 2

No specific release date has been confirmed, but we have little doubt that it will make an appearance on the AppStore in time for the film’s May 7th release.
