Inertia: Escape Velocity Preview

I don’t know about you but I love rooting for anything going against the grain. That’s one of the things that’s great about the mobile gaming landscape, it’s full of tiny teams making interesting games. The student and indie scene is almost too cluttered with unique and interesting titles, but the upcoming game Inertia: Escape Velocity comes to us via a game that was featured at the heart of that scene. But I’m getting ahead of myself. What, exactly, is it?

Inertia: Escape Velocity hitting mobile devices on December 1st

I don’t know about you but I love rooting for anything going against the grain. That’s one of the things that’s great about the mobile gaming landscape, it’s full of tiny teams making interesting games. The student and indie scene is almost too cluttered with unique and interesting titles, but the upcoming game Inertia: Escape Velocity comes to us via a game that was featured at the heart of that scene. But I’m getting ahead of myself. What, exactly, is it?

 Escape Velocity

Intertia: Escape Velocity is a physics-based platformer, but doesn’t hold much regard for the effects of gravity. You’ll manipulate gravity to float your way around various obstacles and into space debris (for collection purposes, of course). On screen controls are the default, but you’ll also be able to tilt controls for more of a challenge. If the tilt controls aren’t tough enough for you, you’ll also be able to play the “Inferno” versions of the levels that offer the maximum level of difficulty.

The game was developed by Red Fly Studio, and is the spiritual successor to Inertia, the 2011 Indie Game Challenge Grand Prize for non-commercial games winner. A percentage of the profits from Escape Velocity will be donated to the Southern Methodist University game development program (also known as The Guildhall at SMU).

Inertia: Escape Velocity aims to bring the “console experience” to portable gaming, so be sure to check out whether or not they succeed for yourself when the game launches for iOS and Android on December 1st.
