But after spending some hands-on time with an early preview build of the game sent to us by Alawar, we feel pretty confident in saying that House of 1000 Doors is good enough to hold its own among all of the other haunted house-themed offerings in today’s HOG marketplace.

But after spending some hands-on time with an early preview build of the game sent to us by Alawar, we feel pretty confident in saying that House of 1000 Doors is good enough to hold its own among all of the other haunted house-themed offerings in today’s HOG marketplace.
The protagonist is Kate Reed, a struggling author of supernatural fiction. She receives a mysterious invitation to attend a s̩ance, where the ghost of a long-dead relative entreats her to visit the House of 1000 Doors Рa haunted house that materializes in different places around the world for a short time, before disappearing again. Few people have ever been able to enter the house, but Kate is about to become one of them.
From what we saw in the preview, House of 1000 Doors is comprised of the usual inventory-based puzzles, where you find objects for your inventory and have to figure out how to use them in the scene to move the story forward. The graphics were particularly crisp and clear, and were also impressed by the quality of the video cutscenes – especially the lifelike and elegant character model of Kate herself.
The game offers two difficulty modes: In Casual, it takes 60 seconds for the Hint button to recharge, and zones that can be interacted with are highlighted. In Expert mode, there are no highlights to nudge you in the right direction, and you’ll have to wait a full 2 minutes for the next hint.
