Looks like EA is issuing a red card to FIFA Superstars, as the company announced it will be taking the iOS / Facebook soccer sim offline come March 31st.

With over 1 million monthly users on Facebook alone, the game still retains a dedicated following, but one that makes up too small a fraction of EA’s online market, the company says, to justify the cost.

“The decisions to retire older EA games are never easy…But as games get replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the older games dwindles to a level — fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles — where it’s no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these games up and running.”

All currency purchased for FIFA Superstars disappears along with the game at the end of March, and is non-transferable to other EA titles. So, if you’ve been saving up for some sweet soccer goods, now’s the time to treat yourself. You’re worth it.
