Game Introduction – Dragon Story: New Dawn

Dragon Story: New Dawn is the Team Lava-developed persistent-world game where players create, breed and evolve various dragons and build up collections of various types. Gamezebo’s quick start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.

Quick Start Guide

  • To download the game, click the “Play Now” button at the top of this page.
  • Once downloaded, click the “play” button
  • That’s it! You’re ready to start the game!

How to Play:

Dragon Story: New Dawn

  • Experience Bar: Let’s first start off with the UI of the game to get you familiarized.  In the top left of the screen you’ll see a star with a number in it, followed by a bar.  This is the experience bar. By completing various tasks throughout the game you will earn stars that add to your experience.  Meeting certain thresholds means that you gain a new level, which unlocks new dragons and buildings for you to place in your city.
  • Silver: Silver is the base currency of the game.  You will gain silver by completing tasks and dragons will automatically generate some silver for you every hour.  This is a persistent game, so this silver is calculated while you’re not in the game—so you’re always earning it regardless of how much you do or don’t play.
  • Gold: The gold brick icon is how much gold you have.  This is premium currency that you can purchase for real life cash to speed up certain activities in the game, or purchase premium buildings and dragons in the game’s shop.
  • Food: The strawberry icon shows you how much food you have.  You must use food points to level up your dragons, which will have them earn you more silver per hour and let them evolve into bigger and more beautiful beings.

  • Habitats: Every creature type in the game requires that you have a habitat for them to be housed.  The basic one that is shown in the above screenshot is limited to just two dragons and only 250 coins can be stored in that one location at any given time before you’re cut off.  So eventually you’ll want to save up for the “big” habitats where you can house an extra dragon, but more importantly, the coin capacity is 10,000—so any prolonged breaks from the game won’t result in you not earning as many coins as you should.
  • Collecting Silver: Typically when you open up the game there will be a “collect” button hovering, but the game also allows you to select the habitat and immediately collect on coins.  This is a nice feature if you’re just a little short on buying a new building for your city and just want to pick up the extra scratch right then and there to get it built.

  • Farms: Farms are one of the most important items in the game.  You can purchase them in the shop, and like habitats they have “large” farms that grow different kinds of food and more quantities of food so you can keep on leveling up your dragons.

  • Leveling Your Dragons: First, select your habitat to view the dragon that you want to level.  In this case, I’m going to select my boy Torch.

  • Feed: From there, use the food that you grew in the garden to level them up! You can note in the above screenshot that you can change the dragon’s name, sell them for some silver, or move them to a different habitat.  Early on, the sell price of these dragons is pretty low, so the money that they generate every hour is much more useful than the paltry sum that the game offers you for them.

  • Breeding: This is a good way to get new and interesting new dragons.  First, you must purchase a breeding ground from the game’s shop.  From there, simply follow the on screen prompts to select two dragons to breed.  They must be two different types to get a mix of the two types.

  • Result: Ash is a result of mixing a forest and a fire dragon together. Purdy!

  • Speed Up: If you’re the impatient type, you can speed up any process by spending gold.  The amount of gold varies depending on the amount of time that the activity takes.  So, for example, breeding takes quite some time (about 6-10 hours), so the amount of bricks it takes is a fairly stiff 10.  It’s up to you to determine if speeding up the process is worth spending real life cash.

  • Goals: The game does a great job giving you objectives along the way to ensure that you are building the right items to get you down the right path.  Completing these objectives also nets you experience and silver, which helps you get new buildings and dragons opened up for you to spend your hard earned silver (or bought gold!)

  • Daily Bonus: Like many other games of this type, Dragon Story: New Dawn also rewards frequent players with better and better rewards for continuing to play day in and day out.  The longer you play at least once a day, the better the daily bonus will be for you. Loyalty counts!

Dragon Story: New Dawn

  • Personalization: In the game’s menu (bottom left corner of the game if you have nothing selected), you can select “overview” to bring you to the above screen. From there, you can change your island’s name, your profile picture, see your stats and view what others have posted on your wall.
Dragon Story: New Dawn
  • Social: From the same main menu screen, you can social. From there you can go to the community at large and check out other people’s islands and dragons, play with their dragons to increase your social ranking, post on their wall and become neighbors—which is just another way to keep tabs with your friends and their progress in the game.

Dragon Story: New Dawn

  • Expansion: Once you get too big for your britches in the tiny space that they give you to start out, you’ll want to start buying up the surrounding land.  This only costs silver to do, but also takes time to complete like every other activity in the game.

Dragon Story: New Dawn

  • Clearing Out Obstacles: Especially when you start buying up new land, clearing the land for use is going to be a big money sink.  Most of the times the obstacles will be trees like the above screenshot.  These aren’t cheap—1000 silver per clearing, and they also take time to remove.  Combined with the purchase of the expansion, this is not a cheap move, so make sure you make use of all your available land and think about your placement carefully and shift farms and habitats around to make the best use of your space.
