A recent update has seen the addition of a whole new world of fun to be had in BitLife. We can now adopt and raise our very own pets! This may not sound like a big deal to some of you (mainly Android Users), but I can assure you it is. This guide will cover everything you need to know from Goldfish to Siberian tigers, this guide has it all.

What pets can I get?

Without a premium membership, you can only get the more traditional kind of pets. Basic members will only be able to chose animals that have been dumped in the animal shelter. Whereas premium members will have access to the dog breeder, cat breeder, pet store and exotic pet dealer.

If you have a basic membership then you are missing out on the opportunity to own any wild or interesting animals. This is because it is unlikely that any good animals will be in the animal shelter. If you want to really want to own some wacky and crazy animals, then go premium. One last thing to note, if you are not a Bitizen then you can only adopt a pet four times – choose wisely!

If you are premium, then you will have access to an entirely new world of animals. The store with the most exotic pets is called an Exotic Pet Dealer, which means he has weird and wonderful animals from time to time. He only has one animal per year, so if you don’t like the look of his stock one year, then skip forward and he will have something else. His stock ranges from tigers to gorillas so if you are looking for a special type of pet, then look no further.

I want a specific breed of dog

That is a perfectly reasonable request when virtual dog shopping and BitLife has the answer for you. If you don’t like the look of the traditional mutts that are pretty common in the pet stores and animal shelters, then you need to check the breeders.

I don’t know if the dog breeder has every single type of dog breed, but it has got an incredible selection. Normally, a breeder will have very healthy and happy animals that age from a puppy to around a couple years old. So you won’t have to worry about whether you are buying a ‘good’ dog.

The only downside to buying from a breeder is the monthly and upfront costs are a little higher than the pet store. But you are paying more for less risk, less chance this dog will maul you or your family. Plus a happy dog is one that shouldn’t run away.

I want horses!

As you may have heard it is possible for you to own and ride horses in this new pet update. In order to have the option of buying horses, you will need a specific property to keep them. This type of property has the word ‘equestrian’ in it, which means it is a special facility designed for horses.

There is no point in owning a horse unless you have the space needed for them to gallop and frolic all day. Owning this space is not a cheap process either, owning an equestrian property costs more than $5 million and can even cost as much as $10+. So unless you have around 10 million to spend I wouldn’t worry about owning horses just yet.

I have to pay for my pets?

Not exactly, in fact this update may have tweaked how previous animal encounters go down. Normally successfully rescuing an animal you randomly encounter had little merit besides an achievement. Now it appears you can rescue this animal and then keep it as your own.

One lucky user on Reddit managed to randomly encounter a Unicorn, and he successfully rescued it. They did not have an equestrian property or other horses, they randomly met a unicorn and got to keep it for free!

Once again its important to note that if you aren’t a premium member then you will miss out on most of the animals listed below. Instead you are doomed to own bunnies, cats and dogs for the rest of your BitLife.
