As the credits rolled up the screen for The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Adam Butcher headed home inspired and determined to make an epic adventure video game. He was fourteen at the time.

Fast-forward to today, thirteen years after The Fellowship of the Ring was in theaters. Butcher just finished his game. He’s now 27-years-old.

In a video Butcher created and published online (seen above), Butcher outlines six reasons why Tobias and the Dark Sceptres took him so long to develop. Some of his biggest regrets were that he went in overly ambitions and stubbornly stuck to the plan too much, while also having no idea what he was doing. The longer he spent on the game, the stronger his desire to finish it became.

“I love it because, despite all its flaws, it’s the game I always wanted to make,” Butcher says at the conclusion of the video.

Tobias and the Dark Sceptres is a action/puzzle platformer with multi-stage bosses and is available as freeware for Windows XP, Vista, and 7 on Butcher’s website.
