We’ve never been hugely convinced about controller add-ons for our smartphones here at Gamezebo. A proper controller set up is always preferred, even if we admit that’s not always completely practical.

The Serafim S3 Cloud Gaming Controller doesn’t completely change our position on this, but we’re still happy to say it’s a pretty impressive piece of kit.

Out of the box it’s four pieces with varying thickness, designed to clip around your phone and add controller connectivity. You also get a sheet with a QR code and a multilingual manual.

So far, so standard – but it feels of a decent standard, not too light like so many controller accessories. The Hall Effect joysticks and Analog triggers feel responsive and satisfying to use too.

In terms of connectivity there’s a USB Type-C Port, USB Type-C Connector, passthrough charging port, and 3.5mm headphone jack.

We used the device on an iPhone 15 (iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 are also compatible), and thanks to the device partnering with Apple through MFi certification we found the unit very easy to connect.

In terms of actual use, there’s no doubt that the Serafim S3 makes a lot of mobile titles easier to control. Especially the more intense online affairs such as Call of Duty Mobile. When it comes to more touchscreen casual titles it’s not so necessary, but that was always going to be the case.

The accompanying app also makes it possible to stream via your device onto Twitch, a nice little extra.

Overall the Serafim S3 Cloud doesn’t change the game when it comes to mobile controllers, but it’s a reasonably priced option we’d recommend to most – especially online mobile gamers. You can buy it via the official Serafim site here

Simon has been playing portable games since his Game Boy Pocket and a very worn out copy of Donkey Kong Land 2, and he has no intention of stopping anytime soon. Playing Donkey Kong Land 2 that is. And games in general we suppose.
