NetEase Games have spoken to us in detail about its latest mobile title – near future shooter Disorder. Its development team talked about what makes the game unique, tips and tricks for first time players, and what challenges were encountered during the title’s development.

Can you explain a little about what Disorder is all about?

Disorder is a squad-based shooter set in a near future. The time is 2030, when war has become the norm and factions make every possible effort to contend for the control of nuclear weapons. Players are inevitably involved in this war as well. They can choose characters that differ widely and take on different duties on the battleground.

What is unique about the game?

I can’t tell you much about the game now. However, one thing I can be sure about is that this game will be much more than a simple shooting game. We put lots of effort into improving the game’s atmosphere and contents, hoping to provide a more immersive experience.

What were your team’s main influences when developing the game?

The pre-development of the game began around the 2018 Chinese New Year when shooter games for mobile were widely loved. Our team members, most of who are hardcore shooter fans, play these popular shooters by themselves as well. During testing of the game we found that the experience of players was quite limited on mobile devices – as players can hardly choose from diversified terrains and more balanced guns. Based on this we soon reached a consensus on which aspects could be improved – then immediately initiated the development of this new game.

What were the biggest challenges faced when developing Disorder?

The first was based around control. As there was still no decent control solution for shooter game control on mobile, it was really challenging to provide PC-like control on a mobile device. The second challenge was the limited performance of phones. We planned to develop numerous pieces of content, yet we had to give up some of them due to performance limits. It was a tough choice. Fortunately, before Disorder we already had some experience in shooter development, which provided a good foundation for our work later.

Is Disorder a game that anyone can pick up and play?

Our principle for entry barrier is “Easy to learn, hard to master”, as we hope that all players, no matter what level and skill they may have, can enjoy our game.

What tips do you have for people knowing about Disorder for the first time?

This game has not been officially released yet. Our official website and game related media are good sources for our latest news. If you dig deep enough, you might even find some Easter eggs in the game once you can play it.

Are there in-app purchases in the game?

Our top priority on this stage is to develop and optimize the gameplay, then we will spend some time on other issues.
