Gamezebo GDC 2019 Diary: Day Two – Getting Stood Up at Game Connection America

We really wanted to get the second part of our diary up the day on, well, the second day of GDC, but the week became so hectic that we simply didn’t have time to sit down and write. That’s a real shame because day two was possibly the highlight of our week.
If you’ve been following our coverage of GDC so far, you’ll know we’ve been out there catching up with our favourite games developers to see what they’re working on. Our plan is to write an article about literally everything we see, even if we can’t say much. It’s nice just to get to know the people we talk to over email so much and get an early look at their exciting games, after all.
In the morning, we were over at GDC itself. We caught up with Itatake, the talented new developer behind Rest in Pieces, Astragon, the Construction Simulator devs, and 11 bit studios of This War of Mine and Beat Cop fame. We can’t talk about what the latter is working on right now, but suffice to say that it’s very exciting stuff.

11 bit studios is Working on Some Incredibly Exciting Stuff
After a spot of lunch, we shot on over to to Game Connection America, which is another solid show that runs at the exact same time as GDC. It takes place at the Oracle Arena too, which is always a terrific location to visit. While there, we mostly visited booths to learn about anything exciting that was on its way out. We saw a few awesome games that we’ll highlight in other articles.
The highlight of our time spent at Game Connection has to be meeting Kemco. These guys were super friendly and we talked about their journey from launching games on early Nintendo platforms to being a prolific mobile games developer. We also learned about their latest game, Legend of the Tetrarchs. Again, we’ll discuss this in more detail in a separate article.
While much of our time spent at Game Connection was very positive, we were hugely disappointed that a few meetings of ours never turned up. We were scheduled to meet Target Gamers, a mobile games marketing and consultancy firm, and MobGe, the very talented folks behind Oddmar. The latter in particular was a huge loss, as we really wanted to learn more about the development of Oddmar and perhaps get a teaser on the studio’s upcoming plans.

Ah well, there’s always next year! Tune in over the next few days for more GDC coverage, including our final diary entry. Thanks for reading!
