Dungeon Hunter 6, the latest entry in GOAT Games’s legendary action-RPG series, is already out as we write these words—but only just.

It came out on Friday the 13th of October—an unlucky date for some, but not for mobile gamers on the lookout for a gargantuan helping of super-polished, ultra-fun Diablo-esque hack-and-slash thrills.

For the uninitiated, Dungeon Hunter is one of the most acclaimed RPG series on mobile. It sees you playing as a Bounty Hunter in an expansive fantasy world filled with terrible monsters, engaging characters, and tons of lovely loot.

In just five days, Dungeon Hunter 6 has managed to rack up more than 500,000 downloads on Google Play alone, making it a bonafide blockbuster right out of the gate.

Here are five reasons why Dungeon Hunter 6 is already a huge hit.

It Stays True to its Roots…

The Dungeon Hunter series has been around for nearly 15 years, during which time it has amassed a vast fanbase and more that 120 million downloads worldwide.

If you’ve ever given it a play you’ll know why. GOAT Games has made a name for itself creating best-in-genre big budget mobile games, and the studio excelled itself with Dungeon Hunter, nailing both the infernal visuals and addictive gameplay of the top hack-and-slash RPGs.

So you’ll be pleased to know that GOAT Games has kept Dungeon Hunter 6 faithful to its roots, with the same frenetic, visually spectacular hack-and-slash gameplay, class-specific weapons, and more.

…With Refreshed Mechanics

Of course, Dungeon Hunter 6 wouldn’t be much of a sequel if it didn’t introduce a few novel features. Thankfully, that’s exactly what it does. Big time.

Aside from innumerable visual and technical improvements, the main addition is the new Lieutenant system. This groundbreaking feature expands your military capability by letting you recruit Lieutenants with different skills and abilities to aid you in battle.

There are hundreds of these Lieutenants, creating scope for endless hours of tinkering and experimentation as you hunt for the most effective combinations.

Customizable Heroes

There’s even more scope for tinkering when it comes to customizing your character.

All the iconic Dungeon Hunter classes are available, including Warrior, Assassin, Archer, Mage, and Boon Sister, and after picking a class and naming your hero you’re free to equip them with a huge variety of gear items and weapons to make them your own.

You can even customize your hero’s skill trees, building them around your own preferred playing style.

Top Notch Production Values

Chances are, you’ve already glanced at the images accompanying this post. It’s only natural. Beauty draws the eye.

As you’d expect from a new entry in a tentpole series that’s halfway through its second decade, Dungeon Hunter 6 is a feast for the senses, with inventive character designs, lush locations, and eye-popping combat effects.

The OST is absolutely banging, too, while the immersive story is brought to life by a host of professional voice actors.

Nickelback!

To underline the AAA credentials of Dungeon Hunter 6, GOAT Games has teamed up with legendary rock band Nickelback on a collaboration called “The Legend is Back”.

In case you’ve been living in a soundproof bunker, Nickelback is a huge band whose absolute heyday was in the 2000s—the very decade that Dungeon Hunter crashed onto the mobile gaming scene.

There’s still a veil of secrecy over exactly what this collaboration involves, though it has hinted that it “fuses two iconic elements from the time we all wish we could go back to”. Our money’s on a song about Dungeon Hunter.
