Remember: nobody’s actually forcing you to buy anything. Just because XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Far Cry 3 can be had for the price of two Burger King croissan’wiches doesn’t mean you need to crack open the virtual wallet on this year’s Steam summer sale.

For my part, I actually own nearly every game currently on sale. Gimli’s paltry 20-game library (seen in the video above) is a joke compared to anyone who’s survived a few of these sales. I’ve seen diminishing returns for years. If you’re in the same boat, you can always jump on GOG.com’s DRM-free sale, which has been going strong for a while now.

You can check out the sale in Steam, or at the website if you don’t work from home like me. As is usually the case, you can vote on which games receive flash sales and earn rewards. This year’s shtick is centered around team activities and crafting badges.

You can also join me in saying that 15 percent off for DayZ‘s daily is a joke. Aragorn wouldn’t even waste his energy on that one.

Steven "The Future of Games Journalism" Strom plays entirely too much Dota 2. He sometimes plays games when he's not too busy writing about them and their place in our culture, and thinks maybe they're not just a fad after all.
