Back before Jetpack Joyride became an international obsession, its hero Barry Steakfries appeared in a handful of earlier Halfbrick releases. One of those was Monster Dash – an endless runner that pitted Barry against an onslaught of Halloween horrors.

Normally a 99 cent download, the game has gone free as part of an update the game has received, bringing Monster Dash to version 2.0.

If you’re a Halfbrick fan, this is probably starting to sound familiar.

This new version introduces daily events, new monsters, and new upgrades. And heck – the game was already great as it was, so more is better.

It seems like this might be a new trend for Halfbrick, and if it’s successful, maybe even the industry at large. Giving old games a 2.0 makeover to breathe new life into them? I’ve heard of worse ideas.
