White Whale Games releasing a trilogy of pulp fantasy novels alongside God of Blades

It’s safe to say that White Whale Games’ upcoming God of Blades for iOS has wrapped its tendrils around the collective heart of Gamezebo. We featured the game in a Kickstarter Picks, and wrote a fairly praising preview not long before. And now, with the latest news that the game’s creators are teaming up with Django Media to release a trilogy of e-books that further the game’s already dense mythos, we can’t help but get excited all over again.

In case you aren’t aware, God of Blades is based on a series of fantasy books that don’t actually exist. As such, it only makes sense that the game should serve as a springboard for actual works of fiction. Or at least that’s how I feel after years of witnessing awesome video game tie-ins. Regardless, it’s a really exciting idea, and feels like a direct response to the complaints about a lack of narrative and story in most mobile games.

Each e-book will come with a host of video content , including interviews with the game’s developers as well as footage of game development. Because that’s the kind of thing you can do with an e-book. Take that, physical media!*

The first book, titled The Hand of the Sable King, will release in conjunction with the game later this year. The second two — and feel free to let me know if I’m being a little too bold here — will likely arrive shortly after.

*Only joking. Books are awesome.
