G.I. JOE: BATTLEGROUND Review
Oh no! It's G.I. Joe! More specifically, it's the collectible card game G.I. Joe: Battleground, and I'm not saying "oh no" in clever imitation of a hopelessly outmatched Cobra soldier: I'm saying it because the game is yet another clone CCG based on a line of popular 80s toys that have found new life on the big screen.
Circuit Panic Review
Circuit Panic has helped me discover the cure to angriness. The game begins with three comically rendered birds named Rob, Larry, and Gus perched on three power lines, and it's your job to keep these guys alive by dodging the electric current surging beneath their talons.
Greedy Dwarf Review
Your Wario-esque approach to finance has landed you in hot lava, literally. The lizard from The Magic School Bus has taken a hit of Ninja Turtle mutagen, and is prepared to pursue you relentlessly on his tricycle, determined to recover the aurum you pilfered. Fortunately, everyone knows that lumberjacks dwarves are expert mine cart operators, especially carts of the anti-gravity type. Ride on Greedy Dwarf, ride on.
Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded Review
There's no denying that gameplay that revolves around staring blankly at a room dense with interactive people and objects, and putting the square peg in all the circular holes (pun intended) until something sticks is hopelessly dated. A more rewarding problem to ponder though is how the humor of a game like 1987's Leisure Suit Larry cannot be extricated from its gameplay counterpart and adapted into some other genre or medium. Banking on nostalgia and some twists thrown in for good measure, developer N-Fusion Interactive has re-remade the game from the ground up, seemingly certain that this classic speaks for itself. You apparently agree, since this game was funded on Kickstarter.
Escape the Titanic Review
Ohhh they built the ship Titanic to sail the ocean blue, for they thought they had a ship that the water would never go through. Spoiler alert: it all ended badly. Like, really badly. But not everyone automatically went to a watery grave, however, as Escape the Titanic for iOS and Android demonstrates. This puzzle/escape game challenges you to fight your way to safety from the lower decks of the doomed vessel. It's a unique premise that offers some interesting puzzles, but it has a slow leak or two that dampens the experience.
Dice Venture Review
On the outside, Netmarble's Dice Venture looks like a cute reimagining of Monopoly, with anime-style character models, chat rooms, and free daily prizes. While that technically is the case (the game is rather cute and does play much like Monopoly), the rest of the experience is clunky, unfair, potentially unsafe, and downright un-fun.
Pocket League Story 2 Review
I should be absolutely sick of Kairosoft games. After recent releases Pocket Stables and Dream House Days, along with a few years of other titles, the Japanese developer should have been deemed a one trick pony. Fortunately, they do their one trick so well that any flaws and lack of originality are overshadowed by charm and fun. Pocket League Story 2 is no exception.
MetalStorm: Aces Review
The sequel to Z2Live's rather popular arcade-style aerial combat game is here, and it's chock full of more dogfighting goodness. Things in MetalStorm: Aces are a little different this time around, mostly thanks to a much larger campaign, but there are still plenty of planes to fly (and shoot down). And so long as nobody's looking for a rich and meticulous flight simulation, there's all sorts of fun to be had.
