I’m playing video games to help sick kids, and you should too
By Jim Squires
November 3rd, 9am. You wake up, have a good stretch, and put on your slippers. Maybe you'll make some coffee, or crawl back into bed and read a good book, or get dressed real quick and visit with the neighbors. It is a Sunday after all, and the day is rife with possibilities.Unless you're me, that is. I'll be collapsing into my bed at 9am with blurry eyes and an exhausted spirit. I'll have just completed 25 hours of straight gaming, and the wires that provide my brain with any sort of cognitive function will be frayed and strained to their last. And did I mention that it's my birthday? That's ok. It's for the children. On November 2nd at 8am, I'll be joining gamers from around the world in a marathon to raise funds for local children's hospitals in North America. At present, 10525 gamers have signed up for Extra Life 2013 - almost twice as many had signed up a month before the event last year, co-founder Jeremy Adoms tells me. And it seems like it's only going to get bigger.New World of Tanks update adds competitive Team Battle mode
By Joe Jasko
Ready your war machines, Private, because Wargaming's World of Tanks is getting a new content update in the near future: and this one's gonna be a doozy. The highly anticipated Update 8.9 will be introducing a brand new game mode into World of Tanks called Team Battle, which is gearing up to bring a whole new competitive side to the popular tank MMO. Much like the game's beloved Tank Companies scenario, the new Team Battle mode will let players choose between joining a pre-existing team and creating their own before heading off into the thick of the battle. Each of the standard PvP battles will last up to 10 minutes' time, as each 7-player team faces off against their opponents in a battle of wits and artillery (teams of 5 to 6 players will also be allowed to participate, although short-ended teams will be deducted 1 point for each absent member below the maximum of 7). The use of smaller teams in the Team Battle mode are said to bring a whole new dynamic for strategic maneuvers, and Wargaming says the key feature about the upcoming game mode is that all battle matchups will be made entirely dependent on a team's own level of skill. This allows Team Battle to be easily accessible to both beginner and veteran World of Tanks players around the world."In addition to the exciting new Team Battle game mode, the 8.9 update to World of Tanks will also introduce a brand new line of German Tank Destroyers into the fold, not to mention a new North American battle arena and Encounter battle mode for the Erlenberg. Ranging from Tier 4 to Tier 10 vehicles, the additional line of tanks will encompass everything from the Marder III and the Soviet Y-34, to the Nashorn and Waffentrager auf Pz.IV. So in other words, there's going to be a lot of explosive new ways for you to blow those opposing teams straight off of the battlefield! The free 8.9 update to World of Tanks that will usher in these new additions to the game is said to be arriving sometime soon.Plants vs. Zombies 2: Now on Android (in Australia and New Zealand)
By Jim Squires
Remember that truckload of money that Apple supposedly dumped on EA's doorstep for exclusive first dibs on Plants vs Zombies 2? It looks liked those dibs are about to run out. PopCap announced today that the game is now available in select markets - Australia and New Zealand, to be specific - for Android devices. This isn't the very first time that PvZ2 has hit Android, mind you. The Chinese edition hit Google Play last month. Considering China's love for Plants vs Zombies and Android's dominance in the Chinese market, though, it's pretty understandable that this is where PopCap would want to strike first. Head of EA Labels Frank Gibeau has been quoted as saying that the Android version is outselling the iOS version 6-to-1 in China. There's no specific date on when the zombie invasion of Google Play will go global, but PopCap has assured us that it can be expected "shortly." Keep an eye on the Play Store, folks. As you can see in our review from the August iOS release, this one is definitely a keeper.New iOS Games Tonight: Ring Run Circus, Nakama and more!

I would like to ask everyone who may be reading these brief introductory paragraphs right now to kindly disregard the frantic pace with which I am typing these words. For you see, the faster I get this intro typed and formatted into my computer, then the faster I can return to my usual Wednesday night activity: staring at the wall and twiddling my thumbs until the clock strikes midnight, when I can finally indulge myself in some great new mobile games! So I hope you won't mind if these opening paragraphs feel rushed in any way, because the more I think about playing a platform game that has you running and jumping along dazzling rings in a bright and vibrant circus tent, or hacking and slashing my way through a pixelated ninja universe, or even hoping my slot machine luck will get me to the end of an epic RPG adventure, then the more anxious I get about finishing this article and moving on to actually playing the games!Call of Duty: The Mac Gamer Bundle

By Joe Jasko
Now that September has finally reached its timely close, we're really getting into the heart of fall right now, and changing leaves and pumpkin carving are only a few short weeks away! Some of my fondest video game memories took place during the fall, like coming home directly from school to sit in front of my TV and play video games, or just staying home from school altogether to sit in front of my TV and play video games. There were a lot of amazing new releases this month that truly worked wonders towards making it a September to remember in the video game world: from whimsical point-and-click adventures that took players to all ends of fantastical new worlds; to exhilarating action games that pushed the limits of what mobile games could really be capable of; and to just all-around good browser-based fun that had us battling cards with our older brother Gary and dropping a few pretend coins on our favorite virtual slot machines. Have any guesses as to what those games might be? Well keep on reading to see Gamezebo's top games of the month for September 2013!"Clash of Clans: Now on Android (in Canada and Finland)
By Jim Squires
It seems like only a few weeks since we were musing on the inevitability of Clash of Clans making the jump to Android, and now the inevitable has come to pass. Android gamers, get ready for the genuine article: Supercell's Clash of Clans is now available to download from Google Play.If you've just clicked that link and decided to call me a liar, I won't blame you. While the game is officially on Android now, it's only available in Canada and Finland. Don't panic though - this is the same sort of soft launch we see all the time in mobile games. "The global release of Clash of Clans on Android will come as soon as we are confident that the Android version is of the highest quality," said a moderator on the Supercell forums. "We hope that will be very soon!"In the meantime, sit tight Android users. There are still plenty of clones out there to cut your teeth on, and you'll want all the practice you can before the worldwide launch. iOS gamers have had a year to get ready, and they're just itchin' to raid the competition.
