By Joe Jasko
When OpenFeint founder Jason Citron started a new games company called Hammer & Chisel in 2012, many fans have been eagerly looking forward to the exciting projects that were sure to come. Well today Citron has announced that he has received a whopping $8.2 million in funding to go towards Hammer & Chisel as they toil away on their upcoming MOBA mobile game, Fates Forever. But the really interesting thing about this news is that a piece of the $8.2 million funding is coming from none other than Benchmark Capital Partner Mitch Lasky. Now if that name sounds a bit familiar to you, that's because Lasky was also the number one investor in Riot Games, the studio behind a little game called League of Legends. In addition to the substantial investment, Lasky will also be joining the board of directors at Hammer & Chisel, as Citron and company forge ahead with their new game.Fates Forever, the new game in question, is looking to take the AAA hardcore MOBA experience made famous by games like League of Legends and redefine it in a tablet-only atmosphere. Citron is looking to reinterpret the traditional mouse and keyboard control strokes into simple touchscreen gestures that will be both familiar and easily accessible to mobile users. Well one thing's for sure after watching the debut gameplay trailer of Fates Forever in action: this is certainly not your typical casual tablet game right here, and it looks like that $8.2 million is going to be put to good use.Marvel: Avengers Alliance comes to Android today

I've really got to hand it to all of the characters that we play as in our favorite mobile games: it takes some serious energy and stamina to do the things they do along their respective adventures! I mean, I get exhausted just sitting here each day and writing about video games. I couldn't imagine how tired I would be if I was the one actually performing all of the actions inside of a mobile game myself! So I hope everyone took a power nap this afternoon, because you're going to need all of the energy you can muster to take on tonight's new batch of action-packed mobile experiences! To start with, you'll be hopping across entire planets and galaxies to rescue some space chicks in serious distress, before heading back down to earth to show off your skills on a skateboard and the soccer field. And then before you finally call it a night, you'll want to call up a few of your friends and challenge them to a riveting iOS version of a fan favorite tabletop board game.Garfield and friends come to Gourmet Ranch in special Thanksgiving event
By Joe Jasko
Just in time for Thanksgiving, Garfield and his pals Odie, Nermal, and Pooky will all be getting their chow on this week in a food-filled trip to Gourmet Ranch, the popular Facebook game from Playdemic. In the game, players can grow their own crops and create fantastic gourmet recipes to sell to hungry customers in their in-game café. I'm not sure if Garfield knows all that much about growing crops, but he's certainly got the whole delicious recipe thing down pat!The special Garfield event will begin on November 21, 2013, and is set to run for an anticipated two-week stretch. The new limited content will allow players to utilize a number of Garfield-themed ingredients like a Garfield Turkey or Jon Cinnamon, for use in making extravagant recipes like Maple Glazed Pumpkin Pie and Thanksgiving Lasagna. Players who manage to complete the special Thanksgiving quest will be rewarded with an exclusive Garfield trophy."In response to Gourmet Ranch's new collaboration with the notoriously hungry cat, Playdemic CEO Paul Gouge has stated, "We know that lots of our players are Garfield fans and we think it's a real coup to get everyone's favorite fat cat to visit Gourmet Ranch. We just hope he doesn't eat us out of house and home!" Well I don't know about you, but I just got extremely hungry writing all of this up. Time to go raid my fridge for something good to eat - unless Garfield somehow managed to get there first! The Room Two is coming December 12
By Joe Jasko
If you happen to be the proud owner of a smartphone or tablet device, then there's a pretty good chance that you've already played Fireproof Games' eerily fantastic puzzler The Room, with its beautifully dynamic graphics, its head-scratching puzzles, and of course, its enigmatic atmosphere. Well we knew the highly anticipated sequel The Room Two was already on the way for a few months now, but this week Fireproof Games has finally nailed down an official release date: and the good news is that it's coming up really soon! The Room Two will make its official iPad debut on December 12, 2013, with iPhone and Android versions expected to follow in early 2014. No other details about the game were revealed in the official announcement on the Fireproof Games Facebook page, but given the sheer amount of mystery surrounding this series, I can't really say that anyone should be all that surprised."Will you be picking up The Room Two for your iPad in a few short weeks? That's a silly question, of course you are. Sorry, I'm not as good at being mysterious as the folks at Fireproof Games. But be sure to let us know your thoughts on the upcoming sure-to-be fantastic sequel in the replies!Nintendo is experimenting with Android-based tablet for educational games
By Joe Jasko
Ever since mobile gaming has been on the rise, there is one thing that dedicated gamers always seem to be clamoring about, and with good reason: the want of a full-fledged Nintendo game like Mario or Pokémon on their tablet or smartphone. Of course, Nintendo has always stood firm in their message that something like this would never be a reality. But now it looks like Nintendo might actually be making their first baby steps into the world of mobile: although not in the way that most Nintendo fans might have expected. In a series of tweets that were sent out earlier this week, Nintendo software engineer Nando Monterazo has revealed that the Big N might be working on a line of tablet devices for use in schools to play educational games. Monterazo also went on to clarify a few of the finer details about this announcement in the same batch of tweets, stating that the experimental Nintendo tablet will be powered by Android, and that the primary educational games will be featuring recognizable Nintendo characters."Unfortunately, Monterazo also confirmed that we wouldn't be seeing any NES, SNES, or Game Boy games cropping up on the tablet at any time, and reemphasized the fact that the new device will strictly be for educational purposes only. Nintendo has been pretty adamant in the past that we would never see officially licensed Nintendo games on any mobile platform, but then again, they were also extremely hesitant to embrace the world of online gaming once upon a time, and look how that turned out for them lately.Do you think this new educational Android-based tablet will be a precursor for Nintendo to start experimenting with the prospects of more console-quality mobile game development in the future? Can you imagine getting help from Mario or Link in the classroom? I personally think it will be called the NinTablet U. Weigh in with your own thoughts down in the replies!King debuts Pepper Panic Saga on Facebook
By Jim Squires
Have you been wondering what the makers of Candy Crush Saga, Farm Heroes Saga, and Papa Pear Saga were cooking up next? I'll give you a hint: it's something colorful, charming, and muy caliente.Ok - I've probably spoiled the surprise with the headline. The latest game from King is Pepper Panic Saga, and it's now live on Facebook (so you should probably stop reading this and click that link already).I had a chance to go hands-on with a pre-release version of the game when visiting King's offices in Stockholm last month, and while I haven't played nearly enough to merit a full review yet (coming soon!), my time with the game was enough to give a good sense of what you can expect.Like Candy Crush Saga and Farm Heroes Saga, Pepper Panic Saga is a match-3 game - but with a twist. As players match like-colored peppers, they grow in size. Match peppers that are big enough and they'll trigger an explosion. Chain together enough explosions and its Pepper Panic time! There's also an evil cat that tries to steal your peppers off the playing field, which adds a whole new strategic element to the formula.Honestly, it has the potential to be the best of their match-3 games yet. We'll need some more time to see if it lives up to that potential, though. Stay tuned for our full review in the coming days. Or if you're really impatient (and why shouldn't you be?), jump in and start playing it yourself right now.
