Crytek to blast onto the mobile scene with The Collectables
By Joe Jasko
DeNA has announced a new partnership today with Crytek, the revered game developer who brought us such gritty console experiences as Far Cry and Crysis, for a brand new third-person mobile shooter called The Collectables. The upcoming action title is filled to the brim with massive gunfights and fearless heroes, and although it's Crytek's first foray into the world of free-to-play mobile games, they've certainly decided to bring their cutting-edge 3D visuals along for the ride.In the game, players will assemble their very own team of action heroes and soldiers, as they upgrade their weapons and land tons of revolving rewards by taking out legions of diverse enemies in heated combat segments. And judging by that first released trailer of The Collectables doing its thing, it would certainly seem that action is the name of the game for this one!The Collectables will be headed to iOS and Android platforms as a free-to-play game sometime in 2014, and interested players are encouraged to sign up and pre-register for notifications on the game's official website, which will net them an exclusive character with limited-edition gear. And when you're done doing that, why not mosey on over to the comments and let us know what you think about Crytek's explosive new entrance into the world of mobile games!PSA: Angry Birds Go! races onto mobile today
By Joe Jasko
Racers, start your engines, and load up your eggs: Angry Birds Go! has finally been released on mobile devices today! It seems like we've been speculating about the nature of this game for a while now, ever since Rovio began teasing the ambitious Angry-Birds-meets-Mario-Kart project earlier this year. Well now at last we have the chance to hop into the driver's seat for ourselves. Not only is Angry Birds Go! the very first 3D Angry Birds game to grace the gaming world, but it also expands upon a number of great features that have been established in previous installments: from letting players race as either the birds or the pigs, and even bringing back the Telepod technology first introduced in Angry Birds Star Wars II."Angry Birds Go! can be downloaded for free right now on the iOS App Store and the Google Play Marketplace, and you can expect to see our official review of the game in the upcoming days. And after you've finished a few races yourself, be sure to steer your karts on over to the comments section and let us know what you think of Rovio's first exciting foray into the racing genre!Facebook reveals Games of the Year list for 2013
By Joe Jasko
This year has certainly been an interesting one for the Facebook games space, as the social media website has begun to see more and more mid and hardcore game experiences crop up on the platform, while the recent trend of cross-platform play has allowed the seamless transition between playing the same game on Facebook and your mobile device. Now that's all well and fine and everything, but what exactly were those games that made such a big splash on the old FB in 2013?Well to help you key-in on the best of the best, Facebook has unveiled their anticipated "Games of the Year" list for 2013, with the winners being selected through a combination of "user ratings, Facebook implementation, growth, and overall quality." Besides singling out the number one selection of 2013, Facebook has decided to leave the other best new games unranked in the rest of their list."Also new this year are two additional categories to the overall list: the Staff Favorite games, which are what the folks at Facebook themselves just can't seem to stop playing around the office; and the Hall of Fame, which highlights a few outstanding games that were released before 2013, but are still doing amazingly well even today. (It's also interesting to note that Facebook's number one choice for 2013 only scored a mere 2.5 stars in Gamezebo's own official review, so it just goes to show how gamers can have vastly different perspectives!)You can check out the full list of winners just below this paragraph, and be sure to hit the comments section and let us know what your personal favorite Facebook games of 2013 were! Congratulations to all of this year's winners, and here's to hoping we see another batch of great games hit the social platform in 2014 and beyond.Farm Heroes Saga now fits in your pocket (in select markets)
By Jim Squires
If you're a fan of King's style of play, you've had plenty to get excited about in the last few weeks. Whether it's Papa Pear Saga going mobile worldwide or the launch of Pepper Panic Saga on Facebook, you've no doubt lost more than a few hours to their patented brand of gaming. And now, if you live in Canada, Romania, Sweden or Spain, you're about to lose a few more: Farm Heroes Saga is launching today on mobile devices in your territory.Originally launched on Facebook back in April, Farm Heroes Saga is a match-3 game that swaps the tooth-rotting sweetness of candy for the healthy-inducing sweetness of fruit (and other crops). In our review, we were quick to point out both it' addictive nature and occasionally frustrating difficulty - two hallmarks of King game design. "It's the cutest game you'll ever rage at," reviewer Nadia Oxford said.If you don't live in one of these select markets, you may not have too long to wait. While no definitive date has been given, we've been told that mobile gamers worldwide can be expecting to play this one in early 2014.Fox announces Family Guy mobile game for 2014
By Joe Jasko
Fox Digital Entertainment has announced today that Family Guy will be getting its very first officially licensed mobile game in 2014! As a huge fan of the popular cartoon show, this news couldn't be more exciting, as we've already seen how well some of Fox's other successful primetime cartoons have fared in the mobile games space, such as EA's The Simpsons: Tapped Out. Fox has selected TinyCo to handle the developing duties on this one, the same studio that brought us games like Tiny Monsters and Spellstorm in the past, and who have now doubled their team size to take on this ambitious new task. While specific details about the game are still being kept under wraps for now, TinyCo says that Family Guy will be a simulation game of sorts, in which players will get a chance to recreate the town of Quahog where the Griffins and all of their friends reside on the show. However, both companies felt that similar games on the mobile platform today have been severely lacking in terms of a deep story and character interactions, and so with their new Family Guy game, a big emphasis will be placed on the many characters from the expansive Family Guy universe that fans of the series all know and love."Through the different gameplay mechanics and "strange occurrences" in the story, Family Guy will remain true to the world, the characters, and of course, the humor that has become such a staple in the long-running cartoon series. In fact, the game itself was written by several writers at Fuzzy Door, the same production company that makes Family Guy, and even several actors from the show are currently recording voiceover work for different characters in the game. TinyCo and Fox both feel that the upcoming game will hit the visual style of Family Guy dead-on, with the ultimate goal of having it play just like an episode of the TV show. The free-to-play Family Guy game is currently slated for an early 2014 release, and will be seeing a simultaneous launch on both iOS and Android platforms. We'll be sure to keep you updated in the meantime as soon as more details begin to emerge with regards to the gameplay, the story, and the familiar faces you might see around town (I've got my fingers crossed that Peter's nemesis, the giant chicken, will make an appearance). So now can I get a resounding "Giggity!" on this news?!See the next two projects from Telltale Games right now
By Jim Squires
Love'em or hate'em, Spike TV's annual video game awards (now re-branded 'VGX') have become a pretty popular winter destination for new game reveals. The seedy, Axe-smelling yang to E3's yin. This year's event didn't disappoint, with Telltale Games announcing not one, but two new projects - complete with teaser trailers. And thanks to the magic of the internet, we can share those trailers with you in but a click of your mouse. :)The first is confirmation of the recently rumored Game of Thrones project. Dubbed Game of Thrones - A Telltale Games Series, this 2014 project will be based on the HBO TV series rather than the books themselves. This is almost a reversal of sorts from their Walking Dead series, which retained the visual stylings of Robert Kirkman's comic book rather than the grim and gritty reality of the AMC TV show.Santa Claus and water slides come to Temple Run 2
By Joe Jasko
Can you believe it's almost been a year since Temple Run 2 first hit the App Store? I know, sometimes it feels like I've been running through those ancient ruins for most of my life! Well to commemorate this grand achievement today, Imangi Studios will be rolling out one of the biggest content updates that Temple Run 2 has ever seen since its initial launch. The greatest draw of today's title update is the new inclusion of a water slide mechanic, which sends our hero careening down a slippery log-flume of sorts right in the middle of his harrowing escape! In addition to that, you'll also find a few holiday-themed items sprinkled over top, such as new artifacts like the Candy Cane, Stocking, Holly, Present, and Wreath, as well as an all-new character who dresses in red and has been known to say "Ho-ho-ho!" once or twice in his life."And to round out the total package, you'll also have a few new collectable masks to work towards earning while you play. So needless to say, water slides and Christmastime seem to make the perfect pair, and in that regard, Temple Right 2 will be ringing in the holidays just right! The new content is said to be going live in the game as of this morning, and will be available on both iOS and Android versions of Temple Run 2.GOG.com issues new Worldwide Money Back Guarantee for broken games
By Joe Jasko
Our friends over at GOG.com have announced a brand new Worldwide Money Back Guarantee today, which will serve to benefit all users who happen upon a faulty download of a digital game that they've purchased through the site. Simply put, in the rare event that your GOG.com game just isn't working, you'll have a full 30 days after the initial date of purchase to contact the website about getting a complete refund. But wait, it gets even better! The new Money Back Guarantee is also being made effective for any faulty downloads that were purchased over the last 30 days. And they've even made a pretty awesome promotional video to tell you all about the new guarantee, which you can watch right below this paragraph. Now of course, hopefully it won't even need to come to that point: as most download issues could also be solved by scouring the website's helpful FAQ or support section, and keeping in mind the very low frequency with which these broken downloads tend to occur. But still, there's nothing like a bit of added insurance. So now head on over to GOG.com and get to buying more great games without any fear!
