    The Blackwell Epiphany is the fifth and final chapter in the Blackwell series of point-and-click adventure games. The story features Rosa Blackwell and her ghost accomplice, Joey. Known as a Bestower, Rosa is tasked with utilizing her ability to see wandering ghosts and send them to peace, in the afterlife, with the aid of Joey's paranormal abilities. The story begins when Detective Durkin calls Rosa up and tells her to meet him at an old abandoned building, downtown.

    On April 16th, Valve announced that they have selected a new batch of 75 games for Steam distribution through the Steam Greenlight system. As always, the batch included games of all types: from puzzlers and platformers, to a game about shark attacks, and a game about a pixel in an old TV.This latest group features some stand-out games in terms of visual presentation (as well as gameplay). These are the games sure to catch your eye, even before you see them in motion.

    Generally, people love getting presents in the mail. It's always a nice surprise to get a package from someone and exciting to open it up and see what's inside. Over the past few years, an industry has emerged that ships monthly subscription boxes full of random (generally themed) goodies to millions of people every month. In our nerdy corner of the world, Loot Crate and Nerd Block are the two big names competing with one another. Though starting this May, a new subscription service called Indie Box is set to launch.Each month, Indie Box celebrates the old days of gaming where buying a game involved opening the game's box, pulling the game out and sorting through all the goodies that came along with the game."Opening the game box was an event in itself," a promotion for Indie Box reads."After eight months of development, we're happy to announce we've launched Indie Box: independent games in a collector's edition box delivered to your door every month."

    Ciro Continisio of Tiny Colossus took to Reddit over the weekend in order to promote his strategy game UFHO2. After nearly two years stagnating on Steam Greenlight, and measly sales through Desura and Humble, Continisio has resigned himself to the fact that "nobody is going to buy it unless it's on Steam" and released a UFHO2 torrent onto The Pirate Bay. The release of the torrent came a little over a week after UFHO2 was released onto the iTunes Appstore where it's available for $3.99.UFHO2, which stands for Unidentified Flying Hexagonal Object, was posted to Steam Greenlight in August of 2012. Six months prior the game managed to pull in over $10,000 through a successful Kickstarter campaign. However, it is worth noting that about half of those earnings came from just around 10% of the backers. The game is a sequel to the 2007 game, UFHO, also developed by Continisio, which was available to play for free online. The servers for UFHO have since been shut down and the game is no longer playable.

    Guild of Dungeoneering: a self-described ‘reverse roguelike’

    Guild of Dungeoneering is an upcoming reverse roguelike from developer Gambrinous. The game has players constructing the dungeon gauntlet that the hero will have to venture through, but the catch is that the player does not control the hero. The goal of the player is to, of course, ensure the survival of the hero through a careful balance of gameplay. Make a dungeon too easy and the hero won't get the experience they may need later on to defeat enemies. Make a dungeon too hard and it will more than likely result in a not-so-heroic ending.Gambrinous reinforces the design aspect of the game through Guild of Dungeoneering's aesthetics. The game has a hand-drawn look that reminds me of the little warriors I used to draw on folders, back in middle school math class. I know I'm not the only one who did that.While Guild of Dungeoneering is still in Alpha testing, Gambrinous are selling access to the current build for $9.99 on the game's official website. Gambrinous also posted Guild of Dungeoneering on to Steam Greenlight, for voting. Look for the game to be released late this year for Windows and Mac, with the possibility of a Linux release as well.

    On March 27th, developer 3 Sprockets launched Fight the Dragon on Steam Early Access. The top-down 3D dungeon crawler's main attraction was its allegedly super simple level editor which allows players to upload and share their creations. While level editors are not an uncommon sight in video games, 3 Sprockets have gone to lengths to ensure that their dungeon editor is seemingly the main feature of the game.  After creating my own dungeon from scratch in a little under two hours, I'm here to report back that making a dungeon is just as fun as playing through everyone else's.Turns out I'm not the only player to think so. In just two weeks, over 450 dungeons (nearing 480 at the time of this writing) have been generated by players and are now waiting to be discovered by other adventurous players.

    Late last week, Rovio Stars and 5 Ants announced that their game, Tiny Thief, would shed its $2.99 price tag and become a free-to-play game with in-app purchases. The new, free version of Tiny Thief features three levels (fifteen stages total) for free, with the option for players to purchase the fourth and fifth levels for $1.99 each. To the dismay of Android gamers who already owned the entire game, this update locks previous owners out of the final two levels, forcing everyone to pay to access the content.That's right, Rovio took content away from buyers who already owned the access to it. As far as we can tell, there is nothing different from the original game beyond a new sixth level which is, not surprisingly, behind a paywall. Former Tiny Thief owners are upset at the sudden loss of access to the game."This game gave me hope for mobile gaming," one person posted as a review on the Tiny Thief Google Play page, "[it was] an awesome game you paid for up front without this "free to play" money extortion stuff going on. Now however it seems corporate cash grubbing got the better of even that tiny dream."

    From April 11th through the 13th, the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center is going to be crammed with tens of thousands of people in attendance for the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) East convention. In attendance at the convention will also be the iconic Indie Megabooth, a showcase of indie game developers. At the Indie Megabooth this year there will be over one-hundred games for convention attendees to check out, which is almost double last year's count.We've checked out the full list of indie games that will be at PAX East and narrowed it down to four upcoming indie games that attendees will not want to miss.
