    Here at Gamezebo, we've been pretty open about our desire for better quality control on Steam. Early Access has helped turn the service into a figurative (and sometimes literal) trash dump for hacked together scams, inferior clones and just some downright awful products.Earth: Year 2066 was one such train wreck. Until a few hours ago, you could snag what Steam users described as an ugly, broken mess for $19.99. That's no longer possible, however, as Valve has removed the game from the Steam storefront.Of course it's possible you bought the game before realizing what a pile it was - especially since users are accusing the game's developer, Killing Day Studios, of deleting negative feedback on their Steam page and propping it up with lies written by puppet accounts. If that's the case, you can and should get your money back.

    Well this is certainly a sour way to start the morning.Zenimax Media, the parent company that owns Bethesda Softworks (makers of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout 3) and id Software (Doom, Quake, Rage) is accusing Oculus Rift Chief Technology Officer, John Carmack, of taking Zenimax-owned technology with him to the virtual reality company when he left id.Carmack is the co-founder of id Software and co-creator of seminal games like Doom. He's also into rocket science and generally considered an incredibly smart dude. Last year he left the company he helped create to jump on with now-Facebook-owned Oculus Rift.The Wall Street Journal acquired correspondence between Oculus and Zenimax, revealing the dispute.One of the claims states "It was only through the concerted efforts of Mr. Carmack, using technology developed over many years at, and owned by, ZeniMax, that [Oculus founder] Mr. Luckey was able to transform his garage-based pipe dream into a working reality."

    Leo's Fortune is gorgeous. That's what most of the feedback on the App Store focuses on. It's true, too.The game is textured with what doesn't look like photorealistic grass and stone, but photorealistic fake grass and stone. It's like someone took your friend's meticulously plastered Warhammer terrain -- sprinkled with fake grass shreds and molded rock -- laid it on its side, and through sympathetic magic, morphed it into pixels.The titular Leopold swoops, slides and floats between these artificial artifices. Your left thumb determines right or left momentum, while the right inflates or dives our fuzzy, mustachioed protagonist.

    Storytelling has always been a sticking point in previous Elder Scrolls games. I contend that the traditional high fantasy nonsense of their primary plots don't do justice to an otherwise intriguing world to explore. The king of fantasy sandbox franchises didn't get to where it is without being interesting in some ways.It's the storytelling, not the stories themselves that make these games. Bethesda knows when to shut up and let environments and players converse - a rare commodity in games. A pedestrian jealousy, betrayal and murder in another game is buoyed by the dopamine squirt that comes with following a few well-placed clues and "figuring it out on your own."The Elder Scrolls Online isn't so subtle, in primary plot or ancillary discoveries.

    You may not have heard the name Vince Zampella, but you've likely heard of Call of Duty and probably even Titanfall. As co-creator of both franchises, Zampella is a (ahem) titan of the console gaming industry. Now, however, he's struck out to invest in mobile via his new gaming startup Nuclear Division.Alongside Zampella is Larry Pacey, formerly head of slot machine manufacturer WMS."Mobile is where the eyeballs are at," Pacey said in an interview with GamesBeat.The involvement of someone best known for machines designed to repeatedly take your money and intentionally give nothing back isn't exactly a free license to thrill me when talking about games.Zampella's presence, however, is intriguing.

    I've never seen the draw of player-versus-player in MMOs. My favorite aspect of such games is exploration and cooperation, both of which fall away immediately when stuck in a tiny arena with a bunch of goons more interested in killing each other than completing objectives.Ignoring either of those issues, PVP (outside of EVE Online) feels pointless. It's sectioned off: a means to its own end that doesn't result in the completion of quests, leveling up or fighting massive bosses.The Elder Scrolls Online remedies the first two problems, only to introduce a new, creative kind of boredom.
