    In the eternal debate between style and substance, there's probably never going to be a definitive winner. Sorry GQ. You can have both, though, at least in your iOS action games. White Whale is making sure of that with God of Blades, a super atmospheric side-scroller that will have you hacking up bad guys by the dozens, flashing back to the 70s and possibly even visiting a library for more than just free wi-fi.

    Ah, the glamorous life of an NFL kicker. You get little of the credit when you win, a big chunk of the scorn if you miss the game-winning boot, and girls only ask if you really know Aaron Rodgers. Actually, that's not glamorous at all, but Full Fat Games is doing its part for raising the profile of kickers everywhere with NFL Kicker 13 for iPhone and iPad. And yes, it's pretty much exactly what it sounds like.

    Except for a few big ones that don't need to be named, card battle games usually appeal to a niche audience. Guardian Cross has a few good reasons to think bigger, though: It's from Square Enix, it has creative talent from several Final Fantasy games behind it, and it's free. It also sounds like it was named by randomly combining two words from some of the company's past games, but we'll let that slide.

Still, I'm stuck for a word that means something like the next step up from "frenetic," and the fact that it's even a question should tell you a lot about Little Conquest, the debut game from Chilean studio BattleBit Games. Prepare to get a finger speed workout with this real time strategy game for your iPad or iPhone.

    I'm not exactly certain how the Large Hadron Collider works, but I'm pretty sure you can't use it to smash video games together at super-fast speeds. If you could, maybe you'd fire a fantasy MMORPG, a social city builder and a tactical battle game together and come up with something like Knights of the Rose. Or you might conclusively prove the existence of the Higgs boson, but the game seems like more fun and less math.

    It's not an exaggeration to say that if you didn't play FarmVille, you knew someone who did. Probably more than one someone, because it was popular enough that it practically became synonymous with social gaming on Facebook. Now that the original is long in the tooth and Zynga isn't the all-conquering force it once looked like it was becoming, FarmVille 2 was probably inevitable. It's got a much glossier look and a more laid back vibe, but that still might not be enough to cause farm hysteria again.
