    It's been a while since I've seen the movie Gladiator, so it's possible I missed the part where Maximus was able to defeat his foes by memorizing the way they moved in patterns like Punch Out!!. Yet it must have happened, because that's exactly what Gracius, the hero of Rage of the Gladiator, faces in his battle to transition from WiiWare hero to iOS conqueror. To his credit, he handles it pretty well.

    When I first got the email announcing MLB Ballpark Empire, I thought it was going to be a game about ruthlessly stomping out the competition a la Nucky Thompson in Boardwalk Empire. Turns out it's a lot less violent - a Facebook game that has you assembling your dream baseball stadium and a team that can win games and rake in money. Unless you pick the Marlins, in which case the last two parts are optional.

    The annoying thing about magical post-apocalyptic settings is that the fate of all that's left of civilization rests solely on your shoulders. No sidekicks, no reinforcements, and in the case of Wraithborne, the latest iOS hack-n-slash game from Cresent Moon Games and Alpha Dog Games, not even a name. That's just the way it goes, so there's no use pouting about it. Pick up your hammer and get to smashing!

    Sure, Wizard101 is fun, and the pets your wizard collects can be helpful. But sometimes, you just want those little guys to stop following you around and do something even more useful - like guard dinner. Sounds strange, but it's more or less the gist of Grub Guardian, a tower defense game that can be played in web browsers and iOS devices as a standalone game or a supplement to KingsIsle's popular all ages MMORPG.
