    The first Paper Toss game was released in 2009, around the time the US economy started to smell like a carton of milk parked behind a furnace. The game simply involved pitching wads of paper into a wastebasket, but the quiet ring of phones and muted chatter of your digital co-workers in the background turned Paper Toss into a means of relieving work stress during a time when sneezing wrong could get you kicked out of your real-world job. The economy has since improved a little bit, but there are still reasons to lose yourself in slacker fantasies. Paper Toss Friends isn't very different from its predecessors, but it doesn't have to be. We'll never lose our inborn love for pitching trash with style.

    If you play freemium Facebook games to any degree, then you know how "Energy" systems work. You can play the game as long as you have a supply of little cartoon lightning bolts, but as soon as those are gone, you need to cough up some real dosh or you're kicked to the curb to dry out. Diggy's Adventure is a Facebook adventure game that tries to work with the Energy system instead of in spite of it, and it actually succeeds. More importantly, it's fun to play.

    When a circus monkey orders you to keep on poppin', it's in your best interest to listen. Keep on Poppin' is a Match-3 Facebook puzzle game that's not especially revolutionary, nor will you even be able to play it for long before you run out of "lives" and must recharge. That said, it's still an addicting experience—like popping bubble wrap. Also, there's a pretty cute monkey cheering you on, and that's certainly worth something.

    Before we had the likes of Angry Birds, we looked to Atari for our physics games. Breakout, which was released in 1976 for the arcades, taught games the joy of tearing down digital environments years before the Birds were even a gleam in their furious daddies' eyes. It looks like Atari still has a thing or two to teach us about ripping stuff up, so the company has teamed up with Zynga to produce Super Bunny Breakout, an iOS and Android re-imagining of its classic game.

It's a game about mad people doing mad things, and it'll keep you playing for a while thanks to its surprisingly balanced freemium mechanics.
