Not so, and that's part of the reason why the cast of Team Awesome has decided to utilize their newfound powers for the good of humanity. Someone's got to knock car thieves into the sun, and it sure isn't going to be that boy scout Superman.

    The iOS game library is filled with survival games. That makes sense, since most of us wouldn't be able to survive without our smartphones (*rimshot*). One of the most beloved titles in the genre is Spell Sword,an action-heavy survival game that challenges you to slash, slash, slash at endless enemy hordes (though the game also encourages copious magic use). Everplay, the studio behind Spell Sword, wants you to oil up your sword arm again for Ace of Blades, the iOS-based successor to Spell Sword.

    Hasbro's Littlest Pet Shop toy line launched in the early '90s, and the big-eyed bits of plastic remain popular with youngsters to this day. Now the tiny pet store is going digital with the launch of an iOS animal care title that bears the same name. Littlest Pet Shop is a decent accompaniment to the city-building action in Gameloft's recent My Little Pony game, but it's likewise meant for a young audience. Expect candy colors, tons of hearts, goopy eyes, and depth that you can measure with a popsicle stick.

    Hidden object games (HOGs) often take us under the sea, up among the clouds, or deep into mossy ruins. In fact, it's rare to come across a HOG that doesn't feature beautiful, calming hidden object scenes. It makes sense: It's difficult for a HOG to innovate, so the games' creators strive to draw the prettiest pictures. Criminal Case for Facebook, however, crosses out the rainbows and unicorns with a big bloody "X" and opts for gristly, even disturbing images of crime scenes. While the change is welcome (depending on how morbid you are), the game itself is intolerably slow.

    It would seem that whatever deity or force of nature is in charge of evolution has it out for humans. We're condemned to eke out a crummy existence on the baking/frozen surface of the planet, while water-bound mammals get to party in the ocean currents. That said, at least we humans can appreciate the beauty and scarcity of a pearl. Underwater creatures, on the other hand, see pearls so often that they treat them like cheap dollar store marbles. Even Atlantis: Pearls of the Deep makes pearls vanish into thin air with its physics-based Match-3 action.

    Jack is the Little Robot that Could. The Little Robot that Could Die. Jack stars in Gear Jack, a runner/platforming hybrid for iOS that's heavy on the retro appeal, but not simply because of its 2D graphics and catchy soundtrack. This game is pretty darn difficult—maddeningly so at times—and you can plan on dying over and over before you finally surmount each level. Cats have nine lives; luckily, robots have considerably more.
