    The course of history is often determined by trade. Shrewd business sense and quality trade routes can grow an empire, bankrupt potential enemies, and sometimes lead to war. Sandlot Games' Tradewinds Legends, originally released for PCs, does a remarkable job of showing how powerful a tool trade can be. The game's port to the iPhone/iPod Touch manages to convey this concept well, but a few shortcomings in the execution keep it from being a truly great portable experience.

    Let's be honest about something: tower defense games on the iPhone are a dime a dozen these days. The big problem is that, by now, there are a ton of really good entries in the genre, which means that it's increasingly difficult to create a tower defense game that actually stands out from the pack. Thankfully, Chillingo's Defender Chronicles: Legend of the Desert King manages to not only stand out, but also maintain a sense of challenge while staying fun.

    It's been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery; if that's the case, then UrbanSquall has created one of the most impressive pieces of flattery ever with the Flash game Battalion: Nemesis. The object of this affection? The seminal real-time strategy series, Advance Wars, which were some of the best to be made in the past decade. Even though those games were released for the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS systems, they featured strong stories, quirky graphics, and addictive strategy gameplay.

    Battalion Nemesisis a great real-time strategy game on the web, a title that was designed as a homage to the Advance Wars series of games that is also strong enough to stand on its own. The best part, though, was that it was only the first part of a trilogy of games UrbanSquall is working on. Now, we have the second chapter to the series: Battalion: Ghosts. Fans will be relieved to hear that it's not only as good as the first game, but it also has a number of upgrades incorporated into it.

    Defend Your Castle is one of the original -and best-remembered- castle defense games on the web. While it was certainly a ton of fun to take out the invading forces, story was never the game's strong suit and we never did learn why the rampaging stick figures were so angry at us in the first place.
