Jewel Quest Mysteries: Curse of the Emerald Tear Review

      By Marc Saltzman

Hidden object games meet Match-three puzzles in Jewel Quest Mysteries: Curse of the Emerald Tear, a new hybrid from iWin that fuses a seek-and-find adventure related to Egyptian lore with classic Jewel Quest gem-swapping.While not the first to combine the two genres, it works in Jewel Quest Mysteries - but it's far from a perfect experience.Without revealing much of the story, Rupert and Emma are plunged into a mystery surrounding ancient Egypt and must visit the area, solve puzzles and unlock more of an intriguing tale told via journal entries and sketches.

      Crazy Machines Review

      By Marc Saltzman

If you're looking for a head-scratching collection of puzzles to solve then downloading Crazy Machines is a real no-brainer.These Rube Goldberg-style contraptions challenge players to drag and drop items onto the screen in order to accomplish a specific goal. One might be for a ball to fall into a bucket, steam to blow out of pipes or aligning gears and rubber bands to move an item from one area to the other. In short, while the game isnt much to look at (its sequel is much prettier), Crazy Machines gives you one fantastic cerebral workout.

      Photo Mania Review

      By Marc Saltzman

If time isn't on your side, I'll make this review as quick and straightforward as possible: don't buy this game. If you'd like to know why, however, keep on reading.Photo Mania is one of those time management games, where you're frantically clicking to help customers - this time the setting is a photography studio. When customers walk up, you click them to stand in front of a backdrop and they'll tell you - via a speech bubble - what color background they'd like (such as blue, pink or green), what kind of paper (glossy or matte) and any particular pattern.

      Eschalon: Book 1 Review

      By Marc Saltzman

Ask someone to name their favorite "casual" game and chances are they'll mention a time management sim, such as Diner Dash, a match-3 game a la Bejeweled, or a hidden object game, like the Mystery Case Files puzzlers.Fortunately, many other game genres are now part of the casual space, including real-time strategy games, point-and-click adventures and sports titles.Even fantasy role-playing games (RPGs) are available as try-before-you-buy downloads, such as Basilisk Games' Eschalon: Book 1, the first in a planned RPG series not unlike the classic Ultima or Wizardry adventures of yesteryear.

      System Mania Review

      By Marc Saltzman

If you haven't yet heard of bizarre machines like the "Penguin Distracter" or "Theoretical Hoover" then you probably haven't played Pi Eye Games' System Mania, a wonderfully frantic arcade game that puts your multitasking skills to the test.Your job is to help the spunky Fiona start her own fix-it shop, responding to calls from local businesses that need help fixing their weird machines. OK, so at first I totally thought this game was one of those Diner Dash-like time management games, where I'd be clicking on different machines while customers waited and such, but boy was I wrong. System Mania offers a completely different experience that what's currently available in the casual gaming space.

      Magic Encyclopedia: First Story Review

      By Marc Saltzman

If you've clicked through Gamezebo's active community forums lately then you're well aware of the problems faced by those who downloaded Alawar Entertainment's Magic Encyclopedia: First Story, a promising hidden object game that suffered from a few technical bugs - one of which even halted the gameplay about two hours in.This game reviewer was particularly disappointed by Magic Encyclopedia: First Story because up until the problems arose it was one of the most entertaining hidden object games of the year thus far.OK, some good news: If you haven't heard already, developer V-Games has fixed the game and has made this patched version available for download.

      Deep Voyage Review

      By Marc Saltzman

There's some good news and not-so-good news about Deep Voyage. On one hand, it's a relaxing match-3 puzzle game to whittle away a lazy afternoon, but those looking for an innovative offering will be sorely disappointed. The story of Deep Voyage involves a beautiful mermaid outside of the gates of the Underwater Kingdom, who dreams of becoming a royal sea gardener and winning the coveted design competition against some challenging peers. It's up to you, dear puzzle gamer, to help the mermaid create a gorgeous underwater garden by playing through a number of levels.
