Nick Chase: A Detective Story Review

      By Marc Saltzman

In case you haven't noticed, the popular hidden object game genre is evolving rapidly. This includes adding elements from the once-popular point-and-click adventure game genre. The latest to fold these two gameplay concepts into one is GestaltGames' Nick Chase, a puzzle-filled detective story with high production values. You play as Chase, a cop-turned-P.I., in desperate need of work. Fortunately a mysterious man known only as The Collector shows up and asks you to find clues, collect evidence and solve brain teasers that could unravel the mystery to Leonard Di Vinci's missing manuscript. The tale is told via gritty black & white storyboards and some animated sequences, and voiced by the raspy protagonist in true film noir style.

      Chocolatier: Decadence by Design Review

      By Marc Saltzman

Having been a fan of the Chocolatier series I was both delighted and disappointed after playing this sequel, Decadence by Design. On one hand, PlayFirst's latest proved to be a highly polished adventure with challenging gameplay and charming characters and story. But despite a few welcome additions, the gameplay itself is virtually the same as the original, which might let down those anxiously awaiting to see where the developer takes this coveted franchise next.

      Hidden World of Art Review

      By Marc Saltzman

Ever since she was a little girl, Lana Vasari was attracted to artwork and after a rather unfortunate magic marker incident on a canvas painting she was quickly introduced to the fine art of restoration! Now, as an adult, Lana graduates from school as a restoration expert and opens her own freelance practice. This is where you come in.In Hidden World of Art, you help Lana raise money and make a name for herself as she accepts work from wealthy customers looking to restore valuable paintings back to their original glory. You will do this in many ways, but most involve "hidden object" tasks popular in the casual gaming scene today.

      Fabulous Finds Review

      By Marc Saltzman

Not all hidden object games are created equal. Many savvy game designers - including Cara Ely of the Dream Day Wedding series - are adding their own unique spin to the popular genre. While it's not without its share of problems, Fabulous Finds is a fabulous find indeed. Here's the premise behind this fun and fresh download: you've inherited a home in Carmel, California, from your Great Aunt Beatrice, but it needs some serious work to whip it into tip-top shape. In order to fund your renovation plans you decide to sell off your great aunt's things through yard sales. Fabulous Finds is made up of three main types of game-play: a seek-and-find hidden-object task, yard sale puzzler and The Sims-like room decorator.

Masters of Mystery: Crime of Fashion Review

      By Marc Saltzman

Looking to curl up with a compelling hidden object game? You won't be disappointed in Big Blue Bubble's Masters of Mystery: Crime of Fashion, a story-driven puzzler with plenty of levels to play through, mini-games to master and interesting characters to interact with. You play as Carrie Chase, a detective who investigates the murder of a New York fashion designer. Carrie soon comes to the disturbing realization she's dealing with a serial killer out for more blood. The story, which plays out like an episode of CSI -- complete with forensics tools, lab analysis and deduction -- is quite good and with a few twists, too. Plus, the diverse characters you'll meet are memorable and many lines of dialogue are well-written.

      Fix-it-Up: Kate’s Adventure Review

      By Marc Saltzman

If you're bored of managing restaurants, beauty salons or fitness clubs, perhaps you'll be "driven" to perform in a handful of auto repair shops. Such is the premise behind World Loom's Fix-it-up: Kate's Adventure, a challenging and gratifying business simulation for virtual grease monkeys.

Nightshift Legacy: The Jaguar’s Eye Review

      By Marc Saltzman

Without a doubt, 2008 will go down in the casual game history books as the "Year of the HOG." No, not "Year of the Pig" (which was 2007, according to Chinese astrology), "HOG" as in "Hidden Object Game."The latest HOG puzzler is Nightshift Legacy: The Jaguars Eye, a title that once again introduces heroes, Mike and Isabel, last seen in 2007's The Nightshift Code, who travel across the globe - and even back through time - to find the mysterious Jaguar's Eye and wield the power it contains.

      My Tribe Review

      By Marc Saltzman

If it's true imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Grubby Games must be praising the developers at Last Day of Work (LDW), the folks behind the Virtual Villagers series, because Grubby's My Tribe is virtually the same game but with a few extra features.
