The History Channel Lost Worlds Review

      By Marc Saltzman

The idea is a clever one: take popular casual game mechanics and add a historical component and you've got The History Channel: Lost Worlds, an educational title that, while not really offering anything new, proves to be an enjoyable collection of puzzle games.

      Band of Bugs Review

      By Marc Saltzman

There's some good news for casual gamers who can't bear to play yet another hurry-up-and-serve-all-the-customers time management simulation or find-all-the-items-on-the-screen hidden object games. Increasingly, we're seeing many different genres and experimental designs ranging from music-based rhythm games and space shooters to fantasy role-playing games and story-driven point-and-click adventures.

      The Sims Carnival BumperBlast Review

      By Marc Saltzman

The 800-pound video gaming gorilla known Electronic Arts (EA) is now dabbling in the casual game space, and we've tasted the fruits of their initial efforts with The Sims Carnival SnapCity, a highly enjoyable spin on the SimCity building games.EA's second offering in its Sims Carnival franchise, however, isn't as impressive, with an average arcade diversion known as BumperBlast. Oh, and it has absolutely nothing to do with The Sims, which may irritate fan of the series, but we'll get to that in due time.

      Blackwell Unbound Review

      By Marc Saltzman

Everything seems to be retro these days - from afros to disco to Alvin and the Chipmunks. So why shouldn't classic PC adventure games make a return in 2008? You know, those point-and-click stories from the '90s like Sierra's King's Quest or LucasArts' Monkey Island games, where your 2-D hero talks with characters, picks up items to store in their inventory and solves puzzles such as using a found key on a locked door. Well, thanks to talented developers at Wadjet Eye Games and their Blackwell series, what's old is new again - right down to the pixilated graphics and branching dialogue trees. While some might be turned off by this approach, Gamezebo found last year's The Blackwell Legacy a fun, refreshing and kitschy experience.

      The Nightshift Code Review

      By Marc Saltzman

It was quite the night for Mike. Not only does this young security guard catch someone breaking into the museum after dark but discovers the rare artifact the intruder is after is tied to his own father's mysterious disappearance. Such is the premise behind The Nightshift Code, a well-crafted hidden-object adventure that cleverly integrates a fun story and challenging mini-game puzzles into the familiar seek-and-find gameplay.
