    The first thing you have to know about Offensive Combat is that its title is a deliberate play on words. Oh, sure, there are plenty of offensive tactics involved in the strategic sense, but the real joke is that Offensive Combat announces kills with cries of "Bam! Suck it!" and rewards offensive behavior like "teabagging" slain players. If any of that ruffled your feathers, then trust me: Offensive Combat isn't for you.

    It's something of a given these days that developers have done everything they can do with the tower defense genre; the only solution, it seems, is to take what works and turn it on its head. In this case, Intelligence Engine Design System has attempted what could have turned out to be the Frankenstein's monster of casual gaming: Over a solid skeleton of real time strategy elements that should sit well with fans of city builders as well, they've stitched together fragments of the some of the best traditional tower defense games on the market. It's a testament to their skill that the end result attracts rather than repulses.

    Eden Story is a tale about building up a great civilization from the humblest beginnings of humanity. It's a pity its first few moments feels every bit as primitive. Barely two minutes into my playthrough, I'd already slipped into the tedious slog of waiting five minutes for research to complete without any way of speeding up the process, and subsequent quests made me wait several minutes for resources.

    If I didn't know better, I'd say Deer Hunter Online was satire. Barely three minutes past the starting screen, I'd picked off four deer and elk with all the indifference of chain-popping M&Ms, and this wanton slaughter extended well past the tutorial. In some dark way, this accelerated realism makes for a darkly humorous experience. True hunters spend hours or even days tracking down a single deer, but I'd killed enough deer within 10 minutes to land me in jail in several states.

    If you'd asked me a week ago, I probably would have denied the likelihood of finding an innovative fighting game in today's casual market. Even sensations like Nekki's Shadow Fight present clever spins on old ideas, and the challenges thus seem to lie in translating the successes of other platforms onto mobile devices or Facebook. So imagine my surprise when I started playing Dueling Blades and found an hour zipping by before my realizing it (after I ran into the inevitable energy wall). It's fun. It's challenging. And it's what the casual fighting genre has needed for a while.

    At this point, you could be forgiven for thinking that the tower defense genre ran its course years ago. The glory days of Fieldrunners and its ilk waned as promising new contenders entered the casual arena, and almost every new entry seems but a variation on the same tired theme. That's why it's so surprising to see Bloons TD 5 rocket so far up to the top tiers of the App Store. Much like its predecessor, it doesn't bring much innovation to the genre, but it makes up for this considerable shortcoming through sheer variety and a fun aesthetic.

    There were times during my playthrough of Carnage Racing when I had to remind myself that I was playing a Facebook game. As some of you may know, I've long been an advocate of the platform's legitimacy and a fan of its slow emancipation from simple designs of games like FarmVille -- but playing Primal Carnage felt like making the shift from learning how to drive to flying to the moon within the span of 24 hours. It's all here, console racing fans: weapon powerups, competitive multiplayer (against real opponents!), and a host of upgrade options.

    Those of you with long memories might recall that Plunder! set sail on the iTunes App Store many months ago as a freemium release, but it was lost at sea not long after its launch. And now, like a Black Pearl returning from the depths of oblivion, it's back. It's technically a paid purchase this time around, with a cargo hold crammed full of hours of fun and light puzzles, and although there's some concern that its goods remain spoiled by the original freemium design, there's treasure aplenty in store for those willing to accept its quirks.
