    I have a confession to make. There's a YouTube channel that I subscribe to that I don't tell many people about. It's not that I'm terribly embarrassed about it or anything. It's just that some people might equate it to being an avid fan of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The name of the channel is SoCalPolicePursuits, and it's nothing but Los Angeles-based news broadcasts of those high helicopter shots of people trying to evade the police. It's a severe guilty pleasure of mine. Luckily there's a high-pedigree indie game developer start up team releasing their first game, Smash Cops, that is essentially the playable version of this YouTube channel.

    There was a time, oh so long ago, where the almighty score reigned supreme in video games. Getting your name to the top of the leaderboard was the only thing that mattered and you would stop at nothing to earn your place among the greats. It seems recently that this mentality is starting to invade the somewhat stale first-person shooter genre. With games like Hard Reset starting to put the focus on doing everything possible to get the highest score, it feels a lot like the new embracing the old. Now we've got this game Xotic that places even more emphasis on score, but how high on the leaderboard will it climb?

    There's a quiet relaxation to Rochard, both in the game and the character. Everything seems to be put together in a very well thought-out fashion that sometimes gets missed in these smaller indie titles but I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. It's not often that you find space mining at the center of a game, let alone one of the miners as your protagonist. Physics-based puzzle games seem to be a lot of the rage these days on certain platforms but rarely has a game used gravity as its main inspiration. Rochard is a game that combines both, often times in fantastic fashion.

    For a long time now, I've had a theory that golf would be infinitely more interesting to watch and play if it were a full-contact sport. There'd be no time to stand around and analyze the banks and traps and wind, and whatever else they're doing out there that doesn't involve just hitting the darn ball towards the hole. Golfers would have to just react and swing their clubs since there's no doubt that if they didn't, there'd be someone leaping through the air at them with all intentions of severing their head from their body. While the upcoming iOS mini golf game Egg Punch has a great action verb in its title, my dreams of Full Contact Golf (copyright pending) will have to be sidelined for now.

    I don't know about you but I love rooting for anything going against the grain. That's one of the things that's great about the mobile gaming landscape, it's full of tiny teams making interesting games. The student and indie scene is almost too cluttered with unique and interesting titles, but the upcoming game Inertia: Escape Velocity comes to us via a game that was featured at the heart of that scene. But I'm getting ahead of myself. What, exactly, is it?

    While I'm sure I've heard it used a thousand times before, I decided to look up the word "scourge" to find out exactly what the heck it means. Though I'm still not completely clear, I know now it has something to do with someone or something inflicting or administering punishment, possibly via a whip. Sounds...unpleasant. I guess the place known as "Estellion" in the upcoming iOS strategy game Ravenmark: Scourge of Estellion is in for it. I wonder what it did to deserve the wrong end of a scourge...

    Trading card games are almost a complete anomaly to me. I've dabbled in the Magic: The Gathering video games, but they've never really clicked or made a ton of sense when I actually start playing. I realize they're wildly popular and I'm in the minority when you start diving into hardcore tabletop gaming fans, but something about them has never gotten me interested. Let's see if Creative Mobile's Bad Blood can change my mind.
