    The release window for the fifth and final episode in the Blackwell point-and-click adventure series has officially been unveiled today, and players will finally have the chance to see how Rosa and Joey's intertwining story is going to end this April with The Blackwell Epiphany. Though standalone adventures in their own right, the Blackwell games have still followed an overarching sense of growth for their characters ever since Wadjet Eye Games first released The Blackwell Legacy way back in 2006.In speaking on the upcoming bittersweet ending to the acclaimed point-and-click adventure series, Blackwell creator Dave Gilbert had this to say: "I always knew how Rosa and Joey's story would end, but figuring out how to get there was a challenge. This is the last Blackwell game and we've given it our all - it's longer, more detailed, darker, and more atmospheric than any of the games that came before it. I can't think of a more worthy note to end on."Like the four other episodes that came before it, The Blackwell Epiphany will be a standalone adventure when it releases for PC this April. But even though you might play the occasional game or two on your smartphone or tablet, do you ever consider yourself to be a full-fledged "mobile gamer"?     First released back in March 2009, which was literally like the prehistoric ages for the mobile gaming world, Steph Thirion's Eliss has often been considered by many to be the first truly great mobile game. After one playthrough of the newly refined and expanded rerelease, Eliss Infinity, it's hard not to see why. But what's so amazing about the experience is that not only was the original Eliss such an innovative game for 2009, but the challenging mix of arcade and puzzle gameplay has managed to stand the test of time and remain insanely relevant and accessible even today in 2014.For those new to the world of Eliss, the gameplay is deceptively simple: you'll be presented with a number of different colored planets that slowly materialize in the vastness of space. You can touch and drag any planet to move it around the screen, and combining any two like-colored planets will create a new larger one. Conversely, stretching two fingers apart on any one planet will split it up into two smaller ones. As time goes on, several color-coded portals will begin popping up around the screen, and it's your goal to maneuver your different planets in order to fill each one (keeping in mind that the portal and accompanying planet must be the same color and size)."Things start to get tricky early on, as you realize that different colored planets are not allowed to touch. If they do, a green health bar at the top of the screen will quickly start depleting, and if it empties all the way then you'll have to start over. It seems easy to keep the colors separate at first, but once new planets start spawning over already-existing ones of a different color, or when some planets get so big that it becomes hard to maneuver them to the portals without banging into the edges of others, you'll quickly understand the game's immense and rewarding sense of challenge. And that's without even mentioning the various hazards like moving red vortexes which only complicate things even further.

    Here's a question for everyone reading right now: if you were stranded on a deserted island for a year and could only bring three video games with you to help pass the time, which ones would you choose? I forgot to mention that the deserted island conveniently has a fully charged iPad on the beach and a higher-end gaming PC made out of coconuts and palm trees.Well as for me, I would probably bring a handful of great iOS games, a couple of my favorite Double Fine adventures, and maybe even a bundle of indie games or two as well. Okay, so I guess that was WAY more than three games. But at least it's a good thing that we're not stranded on a deserted island, and that all of these things and more are currently experiencing some awesome price cuts all across the internet!"And as always, if your deserted island happens to come with a really long extension cord or some extra-large data storage capacity, please let us know of any other gaming deals we may have missed this week down in the replies!

    In the midst of their recent financial woes, Nintendo is currently looking at a great state of transition, or as others might even call it, a great state of turmoil. So to help get themselves out of this rut, the Mushroom Kingdom creators have been slowly investigating other areas of the industry, including the potential of game development on tablets and smartphones: something that most mobile gamers have been dying to hear for quite a while now.Maybe it's because of their bright and colorful worlds, or their quirky characters and lighthearted stories, but the general consensus has been that Nintendo games would just go hand-in-hand with the nature of mobile gaming. Well I'm not so sure."The last time we heard from the "Will they, won't they?" campaign, Nintendo has reiterated once again that the company will NOT be making their own mobile games going forward (but might still use the platform for certain kinds of game demos). However, they also recently announced their intentions to begin licensing some of Nintendo's biggest video game properties to outside parties, in addition to experimenting with a new operating system that would function in a similar way to what we have now with iOS or Android. And then of course, there's the whole spiel on potentially making educational Mario games on a Nintendo-manufactured Android tablet.

So in that case, you'd better get those pinkies and pointer fingers in tip-top shape before tonight, because there's going to be oh so much world-saving action to perform right at those very fingertips.Most of tonight's new iOS releases are all about the action side of gaming: from dodging colorful blocks at warp speeds, to saving the world with a fleet of triangular spaceships, to commanding some heavily-armed kitties on a few deadly spaceships of their own.     Episodic games are all the rage this season, and the odds are good that you're probably somewhere in the middle of playing one right now. Almost all of the big story-driven mobile games are adopting the episodic formula these days, with most recent examples like In Fear I Trust and République just getting started with their own respective journeys. On the surface, making an episodic game is a great idea. You get to put the first installment out into the world up front and gauge your players' feedback before fine-tuning the episodes that follow. But there's one potential risk that could actually end up harming these pre-planned episodic games: the lengthy and sometimes unavoidable delays or wait times between each individual episode.Take Telltale Games for example, the studio that effectively brought the idea of episodic games into the mainstream of our industry. "Faith," the first episode of Telltale's The Wolf Among Us, was originally released for PC on October 11, 2013, and with the second episode "Smoke and Mirrors" finally debuting this week, this puts the amount of wait time between these two episodes at just under four months. At this rate, we may very well have to wait until early 2015 to see how Bigby Wolf's adventure ends: especially considering the crazy amount of new projects that Telltale has decided to juggle all at once."There are a number of reasons for varying delays in releasing the subsequent installments of an episodic game, and none of them are exactly ideal for the studio, or for the player, at that. Over the last few weeks, you could almost feel the growing frustration of gamers towards The Wolf Among Us everywhere online, with some early Season Pass adopters even afraid they might never get the next portion of the game they already paid for. And for those that do start playing Episode 2 this week, will you have a hard time picking up where you left off after such an extensive break?

    From legendary action filmmaker John Woo, Chillingo's Bloodstroke serves as a fun-filled reminder of all that is brutal and beautiful in the world. While this isn't Woo's first ever video game (he also made Stranglehold for home consoles in 2007), Bloodstroke marks the filmmaker's first foray onto the mobile scene. And while the thirst for action soaked in blood is definitely the biggest selling point of this release, it's the loud story of betrayal and the breathtaking, painted visuals that truly elevate the game into a piece of art that action fans can't help but appreciate.The storyline is certainly simple as events unfold in comic book-style cutscenes in between the levels, but it still brings enough twists and turns to get the job done. As "Lotus," a newly recruited and trained security agent, you'll need to advance through locations such as Hong Kong and Beijing while protecting your client, Dr. Koorse, who is at constant risk of being killed by entire armadas of street thugs and soldiers. It's a fitting setup that's meant to lead right into Woo's trademark action world of violence and bloodshed.The entire art style of Bloodstroke looks as if someone painted over every screen with black and white watercolor paints. You can even see the watery brushstrokes sweeping across the moving environments, whether in an accent on the road or simply swirling off the tops of the trees. It's rare for a game that's so rooted in action and gory violence to evoke such feelings of art and candor, but that's exactly what Bloodstroke manages to achieve, and it's something that adds to the story's allure in a wonderful fashion.Of course, it's not all black and white in Bloodstroke, as the contrasting color of red plays a crucial role in the presentation. The only splashes of this color that you'll find in the game are the red trenchcoat that Lotus wears, and of course, the bright gushing blood that spews out of your enemies as you slay them up and down the streets. Another nice touch is that after an enemy's blood has been spilled, the red quickly fades to black and remains on the world's canvas: letting players essentially add to the living painting with more bloodshed.
