    There's nothing cooler to me than when two successful and respectable mobile games decide to team up for a special event that bridges together some of our favorite game worlds. Pulling double duty as a spooky Halloween update and an insanely cool cross-promotional tie-in to the cult sandbox crafting game Terraria, the latest Worms 3 update from Team17 features a number of fun and seasonal customization items and accessories to keep your worms looking stylish on the battlefield this October.Judging from the first released screenshots of the update in action, some of these new Halloween accessories include pointy witch hats, creepy skull and wolf masks, and the humorous "nail through the head" gag - just what every worm cadet needs!"On the flipside, the new content based on Re-Logic's Terraria, which also just celebrated a mobile release on iOS and Android recently, will bring more exciting customization items onto the battlefield, like the Molten Helmet, Hallowed Mask, Mythril Hood, Mining Helmet, Top Hat, and Archaeologist's Hat.     All is fair in love and My Little Pony. Well today, fans of the cult and cuddly TV show will be happy to know that a brand new title update has just gone live in the My Little Pony mobile game by Gameloft. The new update, dubbed Equestria Girls, adds a brand new dancing mini-game to the popular city-building and strategy game, and also serves as a tie-in to the recent My Little Pony musical film of the same name.As you get ready to dance your pony shoes off in the new mini-game, you'll get to interact with a number of the Equestria Girls characters themselves, including Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Apple Jack, and Fluttershy. In addition, you'll also have the chance to unlock 4 unique costumes for each respective character, which offer their own special in-game bonuses when applied to your ponies. The new Equestria Girls update to Gameloft's My Little Pony is live right now on the iOS App Store and the Google Play Marketplace.     Oh hello there, it's berry nice to meet you! And now that my one awful attempt at being funny is done with and out of the way, I can tell you about a brand new physics-based puzzle game that comes to us straight from the berry-filled mountaintops of Random House Digital: in what is the very first mobile game by the big-name publishing house. Borrowing ideas from both Cut the Rope and Where's My Water?, Catch the Berry is an amalgam of several successful physics-based puzzler ideas that we've seen before in the past. But does their new arrangement here give you that sweet taste of satisfaction that mobile gamers crave, or does it just leave you with a big ol' red berry stain on the front of your shirt?The setup to Catch the Berry is simple, and told through a handful of nicely illustrated title cards before getting right down to the actual gameplay. The Telfnords are little blue elf-like creatures who like harvesting berries on the top of their mountain community. But then one day while out picking berries, a Telfnord named Huckle discovers a magical artifact that makes all of the berries come to life! The story essentially ends there, and the Telfnords simply just go back to picking more berries like they always have before: only now the berries have eyes, mouths, and personalities, which actually makes things a little disturbing if the Telfnords are still planning on eating all of the living berries that they harvest in the game. Whatever, we just won't think about that."At its core, Catch the Berry is probably the most comparable to ZeptoLab's Cut the Rope, in that each of the game's initial 80 levels requires players to guide a happy berry into a basket held by Huckle, while collecting three optional diamonds along the way. But of course, berry picking isn't always that easy, and as such, the game will constantly be throwing in some exciting new twists to the main gameplay mechanics: like fans that give your berry an extra boost of speed, timed switches that open up barriers in certain parts of the level, air bubbles that allow your berry to slowly float to the top of the screen, and many more. A lot of these are lifted straight from the Cut the Rope franchise, but they still function in a few interesting ways in this specific context.

    Imagine this: a mobile racing game that uses a physical track and physical cars that you can place right down on the floor of your living room, and control everything that's going on in front of you through an app on your iPhone. Oh yeah, and the cars can shoot weapons and wipe each other off the tracks in real life as well, and the machines themselves even get smarter the more that you play. It sounds like something you'd see in a movie about what the future of video games could one day hold, doesn't it?Well guess what? It turns out that such an imaginative game actually exists. It's called Anki Drive, and it's coming out next week to change everything you thought you knew about mobile games. I recently had a chance to speak with Mark Palatucci, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Anki, and Hanns Tappeiner, Co-Founder and President at Anki, to find out just how their innovative studio was able to bring the technical world of robotics into the mobile games space for a truly unique consumer experience.The building blocks for Anki Drive were first put in place over six years ago, when a few PhD students at the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute began drafting up ways that robotics technologies could be taken out of the labs and brought into people's lives as consumer products. But of course, the first biggest stumbling block was the cost: most robotics equipment was traditionally far too expensive to sell to the average consumer. But as the overall hardware of the technology world began to get cheaper over the years, the idea of a "mobile game in the real world" that was powered by robotics became much more conceivable. However, Anki would still need to deal with the challenge of creating a robotics product that could work 100% of the time in people's homes with uncontrolled conditions, and outside of the contained lab environment.

    Sometimes when I'm just sitting here, waiting for it to be midnight so I can play all of the great new mobile games that are coming out, I like to ponder some of the bigger questions about life, death, and the universe. I usually tend to start with a few tough ones, like "What are we doing here?" and "What is my purpose?" before moving on to the really important ones, like "What's the deal with airplane food these days?"Interestingly enough, a lot of tonight's biggest mobile releases dip into these subject matters of life, death, and the universe as well! You'll trek across all ends of the earth as a courageous dog to make sure your missing owner is found alive. You'll see what happens when two pixels accidentally collide and die. And you'll even take a baseball bat and send some wacky rabbits straight into the next universe.

    Halloween has always been one of my favorite times of the year: and not because of all the copious amounts of candy to satisfy my ever-hungry sweet tooth, but because a lot of my favorite games love to pack on the scares in a Halloween-themed update! Well Kingdom Rush: Frontiers from Ironhide is the next in line to receive this spooktacular treatment, with a brand new campaign update that's set to go live on October 31, 2013.Dubbed the "Shadowmoon Campaign," the all-new Halloween content will add three brand new levels into the popular tower defense game, as well as two new heroes: Bonehart the skeleton dragon and Dante the vampire slayer. And yes, they both look as awesome as you would expect. In addition to some wonderfully creepy new areas to defend, you'll also have your work cut out for you against the game's new Halloween enemy types, including werewolves, vampires, and swarms of floating ghosts! Even though Halloween is still a few weeks away, you can take a peek at what the upcoming Shadowmoon Campaign is going to look like in the update's official trailer right above this paragraph.     They say a picture can be worth a thousand words, but as I've learned already this week, a mobile game can sometimes speak for centuries. I have a long personal history with words and different types of fonts myself: after all, I read, write, and edit articles all day long here at Gamezebo, and then by night I take graduate courses about the publishing industry. So the idea of a Limbo-like mobile game that focused on the entire history of typography, and that let you play as two punctuation marks no doubt, seemed more than right up my alley. And luckily, writing fanatic or not, Type:Rider serves to provide one of the most whimsical and artistic adventures you're likely to ever experience on a mobile game device today.For such a relatively short game, the sheer amount of variety in Type:Rider is simply astounding, and each level serves as a wonderful visual homage to a different era in the history of typography. Throughout the course of your journey towards the modern day of typing, you'll experience the whirling mind work and ideas concurrent with the Didot period; you'll ride mine carts and dodge the bullets of a Wild Western shootout in the Clarendon era; you'll traverse an industrial world of grinding gears and churning typewriters by the time you get to Times New Roman; and you'll ski down the marvelous snowy white slopes in front of a blood-red sky during the Helvetica chapter."These are just a few of my many favorite moments throughout my Type:Rider adventure, and I was constantly amazed at every turn by how rich and engrossing the slight changes in scenery managed to be, and how the letters themselves were always incorporated into the platforming segments in fresh and exciting new ways. Although the bulk of Type:Rider is more about the experience, rather than the gameplay, you'll still be met with a few nice platforming sections and the occasional interactive puzzle or two: the latter of which are always extremely unique, and involve you getting a third white circle into a three-pronged ground slot, along with your two controllable punctuation marks.
