    Mathematical! Defiant Development has taken their mobile endless skier game Ski Safari and given it the full Adventure Time treatment this week! But while Ski Safari: Adventure Time feels right at home in the wide range of quirky canon that accompanies the cult-favorite Cartoon Network TV show, does it also have that addictive blend of endless gameplay to match, and to give it that much needed lasting appeal? Or does it simply find itself caught in a candy-encrusted avalanche that stops any fun to be had in its tracks?In the game, players take control of Adventure Time series hero Finn, as the boy gets abruptly woken up from a slumber and is immediately sent on a careening ski adventure down some never-ending natural hills throughout the Land of Ooo. Simply tapping on the screen causes Finn to leap through the air, while holding down on the screen will execute some awesome in-air flips for a seriously algebraic score bonus. You'll also have the help from numerous other Adventure Time characters along the way, like Jake, Marceline, and Princess Bubblegum, who can all be utilized in different ways by Finn to keep him skiing (and sometimes even flying) in the utmost of style."The biggest strength of Ski Safari: Adventure Time is in Defiant Development's extremely close representation of the original source material, right down to the bouncing soundtrack and Finn's accompanying shriek of "Ski Safari!" at the start of the app. Everything from the colorful illustrations to the actual animations look like something straight out of an episode of the quirky TV show, and Adventure Time fans will definitely find a lot to love here, although sometimes the screen can move so fast that trying to key-in on a few of the finer visual details results in an unwanted dizzying effect. You'll start the game out by skiing through the cottony pink Candy Kingdom, but the Ice Kingdom and Mystery Mountains can also be purchased by racking up those coins on your skis.

    Mobile rewards platform Kiip has announced a new partnership today with developer ZeptoLab, which will effectively be bringing their unique digital rewards to all games in the ZeptoLab catalogue, like the hugely popular Cut the Rope and Pudding Monsters. Kiip first began in 2010, working with mid-tier and indie developers to put special rewards into games that players could receive and enjoy just by playing. I recently had a chance to chat with Kiip Co-Founder Brian Wong, and to find out some more about how the Kiip rewards platform actually works, and what it was like to partner up with ZeptoLab in this exciting new manner.The entire basis of Kiip rewards is founded on one simple principle: to own and reward every single "achievement moment" that a user can experience. Kiip strives to capture that special moment of player happiness at the time of reaching a certain milestone in a game, such as leveling-up or completing a stage, and then acknowledges that uplifting emotion by offering rewards. But the best part about it is that players don't have to do anything extra to earn these rewards: they are simply gathered through regular gameplay, and as Wong tells me, "When you get a reward, you feel like you earned it.""But what's really interesting about the foundations of Kiip's innovative rewards program is that it can be seen as more of an actual technology, as there are never any specific title-to-brand integrations to be found here. Instead, Kiip uses their highly refined style of "precision moments targeting" to provide mobile users with unique rewards that will be relevant to them. And this process extends well beyond the gaming realm as well, with Kiip rewards already being implemented in everything from music and workout apps, to productivity and "to-do list" apps.

    We're big fans of pretty much everything Daedalic Entertainment has ever done around these parts, and so when we heard today that one of our favorite developers would be making a sequel to one of their earliest adventure games, there might have been some slight jumping for joy that immediately occurred afterwards. But all extraneous physical activities aside, we can now happily announce that The Whispered World will be getting a sequel in 2014.Dubbed as Silence - The Whispered World 2, the upcoming sequel will have players returning to the dream world of Silence, as they accompany a teenage boy named Noah who is seeking to find his younger sister Renie after her life had been abruptly taken from the living world. Promising another "emotionally rewarding yet humorous story" with plenty of mysteries along the way, The Whispered World 2 is set to feature that pristine point-and-click adventure gameplay that Daedalic has become so well known for, in addition to some fully revamped 3D visuals."We'll be sure to keep you updated on any new information we learn about Silence - The Whispered World 2 before the game hits PC and Mac in the latter half of 2014, but for now you can still check out the debut trailer over on Game Trailers and drool over that beautiful first released piece of concept art right above this paragraph.

    Crytek to blast onto the mobile scene with The Collectables

    DeNA has announced a new partnership today with Crytek, the revered game developer who brought us such gritty console experiences as Far Cry and Crysis, for a brand new third-person mobile shooter called The Collectables. The upcoming action title is filled to the brim with massive gunfights and fearless heroes, and although it's Crytek's first foray into the world of free-to-play mobile games, they've certainly decided to bring their cutting-edge 3D visuals along for the ride.In the game, players will assemble their very own team of action heroes and soldiers, as they upgrade their weapons and land tons of revolving rewards by taking out legions of diverse enemies in heated combat segments. And judging by that first released trailer of The Collectables doing its thing, it would certainly seem that action is the name of the game for this one!The Collectables will be headed to iOS and Android platforms as a free-to-play game sometime in 2014, and interested players are encouraged to sign up and pre-register for notifications on the game's official website, which will net them an exclusive character with limited-edition gear.     If there's one thing I've learned after countless hours of hunting for hidden objects in the shadowy recesses of the world, it's that HOGs and history just seem to go hand in hand. To that end, Absolutist is hard at work on a brand new social hidden object game for mobile devices, and this time around, the free-to-play adventure is so ambitious that even all of space and time won't be able to contain it. Featuring a cool science-fiction theme, tons of real-life historical figures to help you along the way, and lots of variety in terms of the gameplay, playing Time Gap: The Mysteries of the Lost Civilization will quickly start to put huge gaps in your own free time as well!The story of Time Gap begins when your player-character suddenly realizes that everyone else in the world has vanished without a trace while you were spending some time down at the café. Your character is then promptly confronted by the ghosts of several of history's greatest figures, such as Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, and even Cleopatra, who all try to help you investigate where exactly everybody in the world has disappeared to. The narrative and dialogue are both lighthearted and fun, and the story sets the stage for some great hidden object searching throughout all sorts of environments across the world, as well as time and space."Earlier this week I had a chance to get some hands-on time with an early build of Time Gap, and it's already safe to say that the game's welcoming blend of hidden object and social gameplay will be a real treat for gamers in search of their next engrossing HOG fix. The hidden object scenes themselves have a nice amount of variety and challenge to them, with rotating parameters that regulate the different ways you'll need to play: from night scenes and mirrored scenes, to searching through fog and quickly dealing with an item list that suffers from vanishing letters over time.

    Racers, start your engines, and load up your eggs: Angry Birds Go! has finally been released on mobile devices today! It seems like we've been speculating about the nature of this game for a while now, ever since Rovio began teasing the ambitious Angry-Birds-meets-Mario-Kart project earlier this year. Well now at last we have the chance to hop into the driver's seat for ourselves.Not only is Angry Birds Go! the very first 3D Angry Birds game to grace the gaming world, but it also expands upon a number of great features that have been established in previous installments: from letting players race as either the birds or the pigs, and even bringing back the Telepod technology first introduced in Angry Birds Star Wars II."Angry Birds Go! can be downloaded for free right now on the iOS App Store and the Google Play Marketplace, and you can expect to see our official review of the game in the upcoming days.     This year has certainly been an interesting one for the Facebook games space, as the social media website has begun to see more and more mid and hardcore game experiences crop up on the platform, while the recent trend of cross-platform play has allowed the seamless transition between playing the same game on Facebook and your mobile device. Now that's all well and fine and everything, but what exactly were those games that made such a big splash on the old FB in 2013?Well to help you key-in on the best of the best, Facebook has unveiled their anticipated "Games of the Year" list for 2013, with the winners being selected through a combination of "user ratings, Facebook implementation, growth, and overall quality." Besides singling out the number one selection of 2013, Facebook has decided to leave the other best new games unranked in the rest of their list."Also new this year are two additional categories to the overall list: the Staff Favorite games, which are what the folks at Facebook themselves just can't seem to stop playing around the office; and the Hall of Fame, which highlights a few outstanding games that were released before 2013, but are still doing amazingly well even today.
