    How big a fan of Super Mario Brothers are you? Probably not as big as Johan Peitz, founder of Free Lunch Games. In this year's entry for the Ludem Dare 24 Hour Challenge, he created The Super Mario Summary. It's a recreation of the original Super Mario but on a single screen.Check out and play The Super Mario Summary free online.     One of the most under-reported stories relates to the amount of money being spent by kids in iPhone games, unbeknownst to their parents until they see a bill for hundreds of dollars. This story is about to blow up, thanks to a judge's decision in a San Jose court not to dismiss a class action lawsuit filed by disgruntled parents against Apple about what they term as "bait apps" but what we call freemium games, or games that are free to play but require purchases of virtual goods to progress.

    The New York Times created a web game to accompany their article about casual games that's very clever and fun to play. Basically, with your arrow keys to move and your "enter" button to shoot, you can shoot up and destroy every word and graphic on the web page. It's really cool. And it's a good thing as well, since this is probably the most long-winded article about games I have ever attempted to read.

    Oh no, Apple you dUDIDn't! Kim Mai Cutler at Techcrunch is reporting that Apple is starting to reject apps that access the UDIDs, which is essentially the identification number that is unique to every iPhone and iPad. This is a meaningful development for game companies and players because the UDID is the key for how games and apps make money. Think of UDID as your phone or tablet's fingerprint. Mobile ad, game network, and analytics company use the UDID to target ads, save game data, and track usage. Take away the UDID, and it's no longer business as usual in the world of mobile games.

    Rovio, where's your Finnish pride?! As reported by Bloomberg, the new Angry Birds Space is available for download on the PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. But not on Windows Phone platform. Which is a blow to Nokia, who is betting the house that creating handsets with Windows Phone as its operating system will get them back in the smart phone game.Apparently, Rovio and Nokia are headquartered in the same office park in Espoo, Finland, just a slingshot away (ha ha). So, it's not like they don't know each other.

    Yes, I just made that term up. Actually, the biggest buzzwords from walking the halls of the Game Developer Conference (GDC) are freemium and free-to-play ("f2p") which apparently are two technically different terms but to me mean the exact same thing. Every company plans to release games that are free to play to start, but encourage purchases to keep playing. Some vocal players may gripe, but they are in the minority since games are making a lot more money with freemium than any other model out there.
