    It's January 3rd, and that means two things. Vacation time is over (sorry, kids of the world). And, it's time for me to put on my thinking cap and proclaim 5 casual gaming trends you'll see in the upcoming year. That way, in the small event they happen, I'll be proclaimed a genius! Every day this week, I'll make a casual game prediction that will either astound you or make your shake your head. Today's prediction: Apple and iOS eclipses Microsoft and Windows to become the #1 platform to developer casual games for. I told you I am swinging for the fences! My explanation on the other side.

    They said it could never be done. They were wrong. As reported this morning by Inside Social Games, CityVille has surpassed FarmVille as the number one game on Facebook. In just 20 days, CityVille has reached 60,000 monthly average users (MAUs), surpassing FarmVille's current 56,000 MAUs. In daily average users (DAUs), which is not as impressively big a number but is more relevant to the business, CityVille has hit 16,778,004 DAUs, compared to FarmVille's 13,357,004 (Appdata).So, how did this happen?

Here's how it works: Well, it works exactly like cross-promotional bars you may have seen on other Facebook games, such as Applifier and to a degree, Zynga's Bar. The bar sites on top of the game on Facebook and participating game partners trade impressions with each other (for every ad served on game A for game B, game B serves an impression for game A) or buys installs. But there are some twists.

The9, a leading games publisher in China, has announced a new $100 million to invest in publishing mobile games. The9 is so wealthy because it was smart enough to publish Blizzard's World of Warcraft (WoW) in China. For those who don't know, WoW is quite popular in China. The problem is, The9 has lost the rights to publish WoW in China, so now it is flush with cash but without a cash cow.
