    Last week, I speculated on what Google plans to do in terms of charging for distribution on Google Games which is coming out very shortly. Today, I spread rumors. I have heard from 3 anonymous developers in the past week that Google plans to charge 20% for micro-transactions within Google Games. This, of course, is 10% less than Facebook and their mandatory cut of 30% for Facebook Credits. If this is the case, Google is finally being smart about games and could be successful.

    Joel Bakan wrote an interesting op-ed piece in the New York Times yesterday titled "Games People Play" about violent games kids are playing online for free. As pointed out by Mr. Bakan, for all the hubbub surrounding the Supreme Court's recent decision that strike down California's law banning the sale of violent games to minors, the fact of the matter is that people can play violent games online for free, with no age limitation on free online game sites.

    Google released its latest social endeavour, Google+, this week. Unlike Google's past social attempts, Google+ is actually good, featuring a lot of what Facebook offers, Apple-inspired graphics, and a slick approach to friends and privacy ("Circles"). And according to Google's blog, they've only just begun.So, what's next? According to someone very geekly who tipped off Engadget, the source code on the Google+ site suggests it's Google Games and Questions. There literally is a reference to game invites in Google's source code.

    Techcrunch is reported a rumor that someone is close to buying PopCap Games for $1 billion. That's right, I said it - $1 billion … dollars!Techcrunch speculates on who the buyer may be. Rumors were that Zynga was looking very closely at PopCap but got scared off by the big price tag. There is always Electronic Arts, but with their own valuation of $5 billion, $1 billion sounds awfully high. Other good candidates are companies from Asia, especially since this has been an area of huge investment for PopCap in the past few years.
