    If you're as big a fan of USM's mobile adaptation of Catan as we are, you were no doubt tickled pink when they released the Seafarers expansion as an in-app purchase earlier this year. Likewise, you no doubt did the dance of joy when you read about the upcoming addition of Cities & Knights. Now developer USM is making a few more exciting promises about their digital world of Catan.

    What a long, strange trip it's been. Back in the summer of 2010, TheCodingMonkeys released one of the best digital board game adaptations of all time with Carcassonne for the iPhone and iPad. It had everything you could ever dream of… except for Carcassonne's many expansions.

    Somewhere between the The Sims and The Sims Online, way back at the turn of the century, Maxis announced a little game called SimsVille. It was, at the time, to be the next iteration of The Sims franchise and would let players control a multitude of families that all made up a single neighbourhood. The game was scrapped, and while most of its elements turned up in either The Sims 2 or SimCity 4, nothing ever really "felt" like what I expected SimsVille to feel like. Not until now.

    Brick-breaking games have been around for years now, and there are plenty of them to choose from on the App Store. But if you want to follow the genre to its roots, you'll have to go all the way back to Atari's 1976 arcade game Breakout. That very same company is now revisiting the series 35 years later with Breakout: Boost. Sadly, though, not much has changed in 35 years.

    Big Fish Games have made a big splash on the App Store in recent months, porting a huge number of their popular hidden object games to the iPad (and sometimes the iPhone, too). Despite this, though, they haven't really broken too much new ground when it comes to original, iOS-specific releases. And while Tiny Places is a very iOS-specific release, it doesn't really manage to buck this trend.

    Beeline Interactive seem to be proving themselves something of a hitmaker when it comes to combining popular kids properties with social gaming. The team was responsible for Smurfs' Village and Snoopy's Street Fair, and it seemed like it was only a matter of time until they added another big family friendly license to their catalogue. And today they've made it official - Beeline will be teaming up with Dreamworks to create Shrek's Fairytale Kingdom.
