Jillian will play any game with cute characters or an isometric perspective, but her favorites are Fallout 3, Secret of Mana, and Harvest Moon. Her PC suffers from permanent cat-on-keyboard syndrome, which she blames for most deaths in Don’t Starve. She occasionally stops gaming long enough to eat waffles and rewatch Battlestar Galactica.

    Cart Life is special.  Not because it is "a retail simulation for Windows," but because of everything it doesn't tell you in that one-line description.  Because it's a game about mundaneness, tedium, exhaustion, and disappointment that still manages to be engaging, moving, and inspirational.

    Square Enix has built up 25 years' worth of mostly fond memories and good feelings towards its Final Fantasy series.  Its fans are loyal, enthusiastic, and trusting towards the Final Fantasy name, even when it's not followed by a Roman numeral.  Final Fantasy: All the Bravest plays off this trust by hiding a greedy, shallow game beneath a nostalgic skin.

    Full, shameful disclosure: The Book of Legends is my first Aldorlea game.  Not for lack of interest, but mostly time: the creators of the Millennium and Laxius Force series, Moonchild, and 3 Stars of Destiny are known for their engrossing and lengthy RPGs filled with side quests, secrets, and multi-path stories.  The Book of Legends lives up to all of these promises and more, solidifying Aldorlea a spot on the list of developers I must make time for.

    The quick and dirty description of Time Surfer is "Tiny Wings with time control."  While this is glibly correct—you will dive into hills in order to propel the surfer up and forward—it's much more than that, and ultimately feels very different from its laid-back inspiration.  Time Surfer is a fast-paced, frantic, and breathtaking experience that—like Tiny Wings—should not be missed.
