Jillian will play any game with cute characters or an isometric perspective, but her favorites are Fallout 3, Secret of Mana, and Harvest Moon. Her PC suffers from permanent cat-on-keyboard syndrome, which she blames for most deaths in Don’t Starve. She occasionally stops gaming long enough to eat waffles and rewatch Battlestar Galactica.

    Monster Loves You! playfully bills itself as a monster "life simulator."  While genres are malleable and rarely set in stone, I'd like to reclassify it right now: Monster Loves You! is a visual novel.  It's a charming, unexpected visual novel arranged entirely around the choices you make, but a visual novel all the same.  Semantics out of the way, we can now focus on whether or not it's a good game.  (Spoiler: it is.)

    For anyone familiar with the PixelJunk series of games, the "PC" label at the top of PixelJunk Inc.'s game page must look like a typo.  Obviously we meant "PS" for PlayStation, right?  Even though PixelJunk has crossed nearly every genre boundary available in the past, from tower defense to racing, the one border they rarely crossed was Sony's.  While PixelJunk Eden was the first PixelJunk released on PC, PixelJunk Inc. will be the first to launch on it.

    Time for some truth bombs.  First, the downthrust ability from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link was the best part of that entire, difficult-to-love entry in the series.  Second, any game that is created based around that same downthrust mechanic is automatically worth eyeball time.  And third, Shovel Knight is just such a game, on track to shock those eyeballs into a state of pure retro pleasure once it becomes a reality.

    Although point-and-click adventure games seem to be making a comeback recently, with stellar entries like the Deponia series and The Silent Age combining modern aesthetics with classic gameplay, we have yet to hit upon another Renaissance of the genre.  Fester Mudd: Curse of the Gold recognizes this with its opening directive and acknowledgement: "This game is a tribute to the golden era of adventure gaming," which is hardly a reference to 2013.

    There's usually a definitive moment in games that allows you to gauge how you're going to feel about them, good or bad.  That moment in Doom & Destiny is its very first scene: a mysterious villain is attempting to open the demonic Ultraworld via virginal sacrifice, but is thwarted thanks to a party that got a little out of hand the night before.  He declares a need for a virgin replacement—cut to our four heroes, on their way to a Dungeons & Dragons game night.
