Jillian will play any game with cute characters or an isometric perspective, but her favorites are Fallout 3, Secret of Mana, and Harvest Moon. Her PC suffers from permanent cat-on-keyboard syndrome, which she blames for most deaths in Don’t Starve. She occasionally stops gaming long enough to eat waffles and rewatch Battlestar Galactica.

    Describing the indie creation of two-man team Sean Hogan and Jon Kittaka requires more than a single comparative line, and much more to understand it.  I'm still working on understanding it.  But the experience of Anodyne is The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening set inside a Hieronymus Bosch triptych.  While much of the adventure is surreal and abstract self-reflection, just as much is cemented in the concrete gaming mainstays of monster slaying, item collection, and puzzle solving.

    18 Cadence is the latest work from interactive fiction writer Aaron A. Reed, creator of Blue Lacuna.  While not a game in any standard sense of the word, this "story kit" is an interactive experience that allows you to send more than just a high score to the world: you are enabled and encouraged to share your own story or poem with other reader-creators, and to explore what they have shared as well.  It's a potentially endless cycle of inspiration and creation, originating from Reed's own offerings.

    Archeology is basically glamour central as far as jobs go.  Sweaty, glistening, short-shorts wearing archeologists get to spend all day digging up fossils, building theme parks based on their findings, and then traipsing about with pseudo-scientific recreations of long-extinct creatures.  Or maybe that's just paleontologists, since Dig! presents another side of the archeology coin: one where a bumbling connoisseur of the past must shovel through layer upon layer of unprofitable dirt to save his failing museum.

    The year is 1891.  Anthony Beechworth, alone in his mansion's attic, hangs himself.  A final letter that he has mailed to his lifelong friend, J. Devitt, arrives with only the phrase "Videte ne quis sciat" scrawled across the page.  Devitt recognizes this code from their time spent together at a school for scientific study, and that Beechworth must be in trouble.  He leaves immediately to find his friend and offer his support, putting in motion the first events of The Last Door: Chapter One - The Letter.

    The waiting is the hardest part of post-Kickstarter anticipations, especially when the game you're waiting for is the spiritual successor to a series left untouched for nearly fourteen years.  Fans of Jane Jensen and her Gabriel Knight trilogy find consolation in knowing Moebius will be made, but an assured future existence does little to quell the hysteria-inducing impatience of "I want it now!"  Luckily, a brand new trailer and website should help ease your Moebius anxiety.  Or make it worse, but that's a risk worth taking.

    The Kickstarter launch for "Double Fine Adventure" last year took the internet by storm, reaching its $400,000 goal in a mere eight hours, and going on to earn over $3 million in 30 days. Although Double Fine has been keeping its 90,000 backers informed of developments on the now-officially titled Broken Age via videos and blog posts, the rest of the world has been largely unaware of how the adventure game is shaping up.  We now have a little more to chew on, thanks to the first public reveal trailer and website launched last week.
