Jillian will play any game with cute characters or an isometric perspective, but her favorites are Fallout 3, Secret of Mana, and Harvest Moon. Her PC suffers from permanent cat-on-keyboard syndrome, which she blames for most deaths in Don’t Starve. She occasionally stops gaming long enough to eat waffles and rewatch Battlestar Galactica.

    The space station is densely packed, with cramped corridors leading from the soft blue glow of the energy reactor to the unexpected green of the hydroponic garden.  Crewmen stride along the halls, focused on kitchen duties, construction management, and onboarding new recruits.  An alarm rings out twice; all of the crewmen abandon their tasks and report to weapons stations.  In a perfectly coordinated laser gun attack, they obliterate an invading alien ship, then return to work.  This has been one minute in rymdkapsel.

    We love seeing projects successfully meet their Kickstarter goals, even if it means we didn't get a chance to write about them.  This week, League of Legends-inspired Project Ward was on our radar, but met its funding goal only 12 hours after launch.  (It's still worth supporting if you need to reveal the fog of war in your home.)  Luckily, there's no shortage of worthwhile and in-need projects to talk about: this week includes a Power Rangers-style sim, a top-notch documentary, and a CRPG that could be the second coming of Ultima Online.

    The year is 4057.  For centuries, three different powers have been vying for majority control of the galaxy: the religious Ecclesiarchy, the Cortez Corporation, and the time-manipulating Guild of TAL.  In an aggressive push to expand their reach, Cortez Corp has taken over the TAL's primary base of operations, the space station Basilica.  The sole remaining guild member aboard, Aetherion, is imprisoned and awaiting execution.  His only hope for rescue is a remote-controlled droid named Bishop 7, who must be guided through the dangerous and labyrinthine space station in Droidscape: Basilica.

    I'm a mother badger.  I awake in my den to the sound of running water, light streaming in through a small hole in the rocks behind me.  But one of my five cubs is not moving; he's lying on the hard ground, his fur a sickly shade of gray, not deep brown like his siblings'.  I rush down the corridor, find a turnip growing in a dark corner, grab it with my teeth, and bring it back to him.  He devours it, his fur warms back to brown, and he stands up.  I breathe a sigh of relief; Shelter begins.

    Redshirts: the most disposable resource in space.  The red badge of insignificance has been signing the death certificates of lowly ensigns since Star Trek: The Original Series, making it easy to spot who will get the axe each week—or, at least, unsurprising when someone does.  Redshirt, the game, brings the ridiculous stigmas of the red-shirted minor character into the social media age, where being publically unfriended is equivalent to stepping on a live space mine.

    Gameglobe is a game creation engine and community developed by Square Enix and Bigpoint.  The browser-based builder launched in closed beta in summer of 2012 and is now available for open play by anyone with an internet connection.  This series will explore the features, benefits, and challenges of Gameglobe through the process of building a game from scratch.  In this week's entry, we build portals for fast-travel, play with visual effects, and furnish our first indoor space.

    The last Bit.Trip game to hit PC, Bit.Trip Fate is the penultimate entry in the six-title saga detailing Commander Video's birth, life, death, and beyond.  Although Fate fulfills the Bit.Trip model of "rhythm game wrapped in another genre," it focuses more on gameplay than music, operating as an on-rails side-scrolling shooter that is supported—but not defined—by its dubstep soundtrack.  This grants players more freedom, but also reduces the power of music and actions in the world of Fate.
