Her PC suffers from permanent cat-on-keyboard syndrome, which she blames for most deaths in Don’t Starve. She occasionally stops gaming long enough to eat waffles and rewatch Battlestar Galactica.

Kickstarter Picks: Octopus City Blues, Death Road to Canada, and more!

This week's Kickstarter quintet gets two tentacles up for quirkiness. We've become enamored with an octopus city simulator; a zombie survival game with an abundance of "cool it" dialogue choices; and a crime-solving, fedora-wearing feline. To round things out, our final two games exist entirely in the imagination, but on completely different ends of the horror-to-cute spectrum.

Kickstarter Picks: Dwarven Delve, Video Games Live, and more!

This week's set of Kickstarter Picks has a definite musical theme running through it, including music to enjoy, learn, and use to control budding civilizations. We all know dwarves love singing, so that just leaves one odd-man-out puzzle-platformer—which is so mysterious and hush-hush about its theme, we'll just assume it's entirely about music as well. Five for five! Time to celebrate with some great gaming projects.

Metal Dead: Encore Preview

2011's Metal Dead was a much-needed and much-loved high octane addition to the point-and-click adventure genre. Starring metalhead Malcolm and his best (and deadest) friend, Ronnie, Metal Dead challenged players to escape from the center of a gory, yet consistently hilarious, zombie outbreak. For the recently announced sequel, Metal Dead: Encore, developer Walk Thru Walls Studios has turned it up to eleven, placing an even greater emphasis on plot, character development, and heavy metal badassery.

Papers, Please Review

Papers, Please is a strange beast. On the surface, it seems most comparable to Cart Life: both games revolve around mundane and repetitive jobs that barely allow their protagonists to make ends meet. But while Cart Life utilizes sympathetic gameplay that reflects the tedium and uncertainty of living through each day in the life, Papers, Please creates a surprisingly fun time management experience for any player able to shuffle through the nightly routine of watching your virtual family slowly starve to death.

Gameglobe Diary #4: A Purposeful Game

Gameglobe is a game creation engine and community developed by Square Enix and Bigpoint. The browser-based builder launched in closed beta in summer of 2012 and is now available for open play by anyone with an internet connection. This series will explore the features, benefits, and challenges of Gameglobe through the process of building a game from scratch. In this week's entry, we'll flesh out the world we've built with NPCs, objectives, and ambiance.
