    City building sims are something of a fad right now, but few games follow the form to its logical conclusions so completely as Game Insight's Big Business. Want to sell that milk? You'll need a special truck for that. Want to open some new production facilities? You'll need to see if your power plant can handle it. Here is a game that focuses on both production and refinement and, to a lesser extent, on the importance of city planning. True to its name, Big Business illustrates the interconnectivity of businesses throughout a city and the hard lesson that you must spend money to make money. Oh, and it's fun, too.

Sure, we clobbered snakes instead of crabs and took quests from a grizzled forty-niner instead of an Ariel-inspired mermaid, but Paradise Life is so close in design and play style to Zynga's celebrated Frontierville that it might as well be an island-themed mod. Of course, this also means it's fun. If you were never comfortable living out your days as a hardscrabble settler digging up grass and rocks in the Old West, you may enjoy digging up grass and rocks on your own island. Social gaming beach bums, rejoice: This is the game for you.

    Few sports seem so perfectly tailored for social games as horse racing: its rules are simple, its matches are short, and maintaining a good horse requires almost constant care. In the right hands, such a simple but addictive concept could potentially rival the genre's unassailable farm-based games and even draw attention to the sport itself, but only a tiny handful of games have made it out of the gate thus far. Among the most notable is Rubber Duck's Hooves of Fire, which springs out of the gate while covering virtually every aspect of racing horses with only a few stumbles.

    I want to say that Knights of the Crystals is Final Fantasy for Facebook. I want to say that Square Enix has scrapped the overused Mafia Wars model of Facebook RPGs and bettered the platform with a crisp, new formula. Above all, I want to say that this is the Facebook RPG that we've all been waiting for. Sadly, I can't. While Knights of the Crystals glimmers in several spots, its basic playset springs from the same mission system that new Facebook developers have borrowed to the point of abuse, and thus we're left with a merely good game that masquerades as a masterpiece.

    Legacy of a Thousands Suns has a name that makes it sound like it numbers among the lesser-known works of Ursula K. Le Guin or Gene Wolfe, and to be sure, its story-based text likely outnumbers several of their better works. Beginning with its lavishly detailed starting screen to its awe-inspiring graphics for boss fights, 5 Planet Games never lets us forget that this is a Facebook RPG with ambition, and it marks a significant improvement over their well-received predecessor, Dawn of the Dragons.

    Epic Fighters is one of those rare games that remind you of those first dark moments when you first happened upon one of the old Advanced Dungeons and Dragons manuals, hypnotically compelled to peep inside. There was something pleasingly dirty about the encounter, such that you may have found yourself looking around for anyone watching, and something undeniably awesome. Thankfully, Epic Fighters never really lets go of this nerdly rush once it kindles it, and quickly establishes itself as one of the more memorable Facebook RPGs.

    Paperboy refuses to die, and perhaps we should all be thankful. Born to glorious beginnings as an arcade game controlled with real handlebars in 1984, the game has since witnessed such an incredible number of reincarnations across different platforms that Hindus should embrace it as representative of the concept. After briefly appearing in a failed iPhone outing earlier this year on account of licensing concerns, the world's favorite window-smashing delivery boy has returned in Glu Games' Paperboy: Special Delivery, with story-based gameplay and visuals that largely remain faithful to the original. Sadly, however, unresponsive controls and slightly high price make this a game to avoid.

    The idea of a civilization sim based on the rebuilding of Ancient Rome implicitly delivers a delicious challenge: can Rome be built in a day? It's a standard that any such game should be held to, and any such game should be considered a failure if it's possible. Fortunately, Kabam's Glory of Rome doesn't disappoint in this regard, although some might wonder if it leans too far in the other direction. Indeed, the spans of time needed to succeed in the game have you ready for the Middle Ages after only a few levels.
