    Last week Zynga shared some pretty exciting news with us - they had announced the upcoming launch of Zynga.com, their own destination for social play. But while all you could do last week was read about it, this week you can go hands on and try it yourself! As of this morning, Zynga.com is now available to the public in beta status.

    Back in October, Zynga announced an upcoming social platform for games codenamed Project Z. Today Zynga has let us know what players can expect from Project Z - now officially known as Zynga Platform - and it's a pretty substantial offering. After seeing the service first hand, there seems to be little doubt that Zynga Platform should become an instant hit with both gamers and developers alike.

    Earlier today we brought exciting news from the Great White North - Zynga had released two brand new games on the Canadian App Store, and one of them seemed to be in the same vein as Tiny Tower. Since that time I've had a chance to go hands on with Dream Heights, and it turns out that it's less "the same vein" and more "blatant plagiarism."

    Back in August, we reported that Zynga may have acquired Astro Ape Studios. All of the signs were there. The company had made some great mobile social games, and the CEO and other employees had updated their LinkedIn profiles to say they worked at Zynga NY. But asides from this one small act, no official confirmation ever came. At least, not until now - and it turns out Astro Ape isn't the only acquisition Zynga didn't tell us about in recent months.

    Over the weekend, news broke that Zynga had gone on something of a domain buying spree for anything it could get its hands on with the name ForestVille. PlayForestVIlle.com, ForestVilleGame.com, Forestville.co.uk - you name it, they bought it (expect ForestVille.com - believe it or not, that was already taken). Then, as quickly as that news broke, word of a Facebook preview page for the game hit on Monday. And as quickly as that happened, it was taken back down. Luckily the eagle-eyed folks at both Fusible.com and Games.com had a chance to look it over before it vanished. And guess what? This Ville is heading to iOS.

    Zynga may have just acquired Astro Ape Studios

    While there's no official confirmation from either Zynga or Astro Ape, it looks like the studio behind mobile social successes like Monsterz Revenge and Office Heroes has just become the latest acquisition by the social gaming giant. How do we know? Astro Ape's CEO Chieh Huang, as well as several other staffers, have just updated their Linked In profiles to show their place of employment as "Zynga NY."

    The rise of social games over the past year may have seemed alarmingly fast to some, but nothing moves faster than the business behind them. It was just this past May when rumors were circulating about Zynga making a possible break from Facebook over the possibility of forced Facebook credits and a 30% cut going to the Zuckerberg's social giant. Now, only four months later, Facebook and Zynga have just announced that Zynga will exclusively use Facebook's in-house currency in all their games on the platform.
