    If the App Store is today's arcade, Mikey Shorts is its shiniest new machine: a wonderful time sink that hasn't forgotten the principles of giving back to its players. This is a title pared down to precious few actions, but designed so well that nothing ever gets stale. A glowing, beeping slice of pure, simple fun.

    Depending on which part of the United States you live in, it's either early afternoon or early morning. Whether you're a New Yorker or a Californian, however, I can almost certainly guarantee it's too early for this particular discovery. It seems that due for an App Store release tomorrow is an Infinity Blade clone called VOTE!!! starring cartoon caricatures of President Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney. Made by the actual makers of Infinity Blade!

    People like to give Rovio a lot of flack for "milking" the Angry Birds franchise with things like theme parks or, you know, $400M in plush toy sales. In truth, however, I see them as a very Disney-like entity: prolonging the value of their work by making smart moves to grow a lasting brand. Whatever you feel, though, there's no denying their latest promotional announcement rocks... literally.

    On my first playthrough, I couldn't see how I'd ever file a positive review for Flip's Escape. The controls felt obtuse, and the game - which presented itself as an endless runner of sorts - was filled with jarring stopping and starting. Ten minutes in, however, and I was frantically pressing the "tap to play again" button without even thinking. In a gaming landscape of short attention spans, believe me when I say this is one on which you should reserve snap judgement. It will take you from skepticism to obsession at warp speed.

The top-secret, extra-governmental organization dedicated to ensuring the safety of mankind through implausible initiatives like, say, the gathering of a team of superheroes. Far fewer, I'd imagine, have heard of Project Holy Shield, which is a whole different matter-- actually, it's kind of the same thing.

    Jack Lumber is not the type of game you have to finish fully to really understand. It's important to note, however, that I'm not saying this to disparage it in any way. Quite the contrary. I'm saying this because I've finished it fully. I'm saying this so that you know - if I slip up and tell you I've burned midnight oil to bring you this review - that I'm a liar. I've played Jack Lumber well past midnight, yes. But that's just because it's a really great game.
