      BRAVOMAN: Binja Bash! Review

      By David Oxford

Bravoman is a Namco Bandai character from the days of the TurboGrafx-16, who is celebrating his 25th anniversary and has recently become the star of his own popular ShiftyLook web comic and cartoon series, the latter of which has cast Rob Paulsen of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Animaniacs fame (among others) in numerous roles. With all of this behind him, a brand new video game seems like a surefire thing, right? Unfortunately, despite these pedigrees, Bravoman: Binja Bash! fails to deliver in the ways that the character has in other media. Which is all the more ironic, when you consider the fact that he began as a video game character in the first place.

      Asphalt 8: Airborne Review

      By David Oxford

Wow, Asphalt 8: Airborne. Gameloft first introduced the series back in 2004, so that's almost one game per year in the series, making it something of an annual release for the company along the lines of some of Electronic Arts' library.

      Swift Revenge Review

      By David Oxford

In Swift Revenge, the evil Doctor Crow has destroyed (or at least done a nice bit of damage to) the floating island home of the heroic bird, Swift. Though Jedi may shun the concept, Swift will gladly tell you that revenge is for the birds.

      Kid Tripp Review

      By David Oxford

Kid Tripp pulls no punches, as Kid's plane crashes and he finds himself in the Green Hill Zone (or Splash Hill Zone, or some opener for one of Sonic's adventures). No tutorials, no instructions, you're left to figure it out on your own as Kid immediately takes off to the right from the word go.

An Alien with a Magnet Review

      By David Oxford

The premise of An Alien with a Magnet is fairly simple: get Alien back to his home planet by using the only tool still working on his spaceship, a magnet. Doing so is a matter of using said magnet to rotate around various planetoids before slingshotting yourself to the next one. Repeat as necessary.

      Pacific Rim Review

      By David Oxford

Pacific Rim is based on the hot new movie which is garnering praise from its showings in theaters all across North America. Some are calling the movie a fresh experience, as it's not quite like anything to come out of American cinema before - at least, not since the closest thing in the climax of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie about two decades ago, and to be quite honest, the computer-generated graphics in that just haven't held up nearly as well. Either way, the movie manages to be different, unique in its own way. The game, however? Not so much.

      Sprinkle Islands Review

      By David Oxford

Some series get better with age, often hitting their stride with the magical number "2." Mega Man 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat II, and so on. With the sequel, they can easily look at what worked in the first game, and improve upon it, refining it into a more polished follow-up.

      Contra: Evolution Review

      By David Oxford

Like a sneeze, Contra: Evolution made an abrupt appearance on the App Store at the start of June. But as quickly as you could say "gesundheit," CocoaChina removed it from the service, stating that "The version that was (briefly) available was the version built for the Chinese app store, but CocoaChina is building a version optimized and translated for western audiences. They're still in the development stage of that version, but the plan is to launch it at some point later this year." CocoaChina added that they were "definitely considering the best available options for people who purchased the earlier version."
